Suddenly there was silence. The humorous atmosphere dissolving into a melancholic mood.
"Yes, it's true," his dad quickly replied. Knowing how curious his son could be. "You remember how I restarted my research two years ago. You know, that one my parents couldn't finish?'
Jerry nodded in response. His face clearly displaying how rapt he was paying attention. Certainly, his dad wasn't wrong about his curiosity, his son was really curious, even more now that, dad was about talking of his research stuff.
His father's research had always been a topic of disinterest to him, but now, he wondered what it had to do with his urgent summons home.
After all, he had told his dad some time pass, that he would be the only one in their lineage that won't have anything to do with this customary system of research that everyone had been doing.
His great grandpa started it, and up till now, they're are still doing this research stuff that was apparently blank and vague.
Although, Jerry doesn't know weather his dad was talking about a different research this time, he hope he's.
They both leisurely walked to the sofa in the sitting room and sat down, as they left the hallway.
"Well, I've made a breakthrough. I finally found the key, the source of untapped power hidden deep within the Earth." His father broke the news, his joy was mild.
Obviously, he wasn't sure if Jerry would find it to be something great.
After all, Jerry had nevered one day show serious bethinking concerning his research, he had always conclude the topic to be insignificant.
However, he hope he would see possibilities this time, since he finally found the answers that his ancestors had been poundering on–at least that would do justice to the topic this time around.
"Wait... wait. hold on, is it that magic... Magic... hmm, what's it called again... ummm" Jerry said, his voice filled with disbelief.
He paused, trying to recall what name it went by but before he could, his dad, running out of patience proclaimed it. "The crystal thing."
Jerry's condense dulled immediately. Apparently, he wasn't pleased. It was very clear in his expression.
"Oh shit, Dad you got to be kidding me. You are still doing this, really?" his tone laced with mockery, it was very obvious that he was upset, perhaps, he hadn't changed his mind on the fact that it was insignificant.
"I can't believe you actually still think magic.. umm….. crystals exist and they grants wishes? Like seriously?" There was mockery in his voice.
His father took a deep breath, as he tuat himself from the sofa, gazing at jerry eyeballs, his eyes where filled with conviction as he spoke.
"I understand your skepticism boy, but through my research, I've been able to discovered ancient knowledge and evidence pointing to the existence of this powerful crystal with extraordinary properties, listen i know it sounds crazy, but believe me, it's real."
"Oh Damn." Jerry shook his head, feeling disappointed. "Can you listen to yourself, Dad? It sounds too fantastical. How can you talk about this like you are so sure?.....hold on, is this why you told me to comeback from school?"
His father placed a hand on his shoulder, ignoring all the questions, knowing fully well that, answering those questions would only lead's to more argument, the important thing now, was to try and convince his son.
Actually he had been trying for many years now, he hope this time, with possible proves, he would believe or something.
his voice already filled with determination that made his gut twist. But how can someone actually believe in crap like this?
"I wouldn't share this with you if I wasn't sure. I believe in this discovery. And I believe its not a fantasy. If... if we can work together, we can explore this path and uncover the truth. It's an opportunity to make a significant impact and leave a lasting legacy, besides this is what our parents had been trying to discover for years and guess what? We just found it." The old man tone was mixed with excitement and great belief in what he was saying.
Jerry's anger began to waver. It was clear now; with the level of earnestness in his father's eyes, there was no way he could make him see how ridiculous he was being right now.
For the first time in years, Jerry was actually reasoning his father's ideas, instead of damning it completely as usual.
It was his father's life's work after all and it was chance to embark on an extraordinary journey, but it's still sounding insane to him.
Although, Jerry was slowly beginning to yield, he tries to hide it anyway. He hasn't seen any proves that such crystal exists and he was probably scared as well.
"Alright…. Alright..! Let get something straight here" Jerry said, his eyes twitching at his dad, trying to look very unpersuaded.
"Firstly, they where your parents not mine, they where just my grandparents and secondly, there is no 'we'– am not buying any of this. Plus….this is insane. Dad! Like where on this earth have you heard such?"
Jerry tries to speak more calmly. Hoping that his negations would discourage the old man. This whole magic thing could actually lead them to somewhere they won't want to find themselves.
"Fine, you're correct, they're my parents, that means they're also yours too. Look, I got this in my palms, I have found the route to it"
As Jonas spoke: for that was his name. Jerry wanted to object the opposition, but he didn't give him that space to speak, he continued.
"listen boy, I know I found this but believe me, it's reeeeal!"
He strained the 'Its real' statement' in effort to sound more convincing, at least, he had tried all he could, maybe stretching the syllables would do some justice to it.
"Humm" Jerry sighed softly, trying to wear in a face of acceptance to what his dad was telling him about.
He had tried his best to damn away this debate of crystal stuff but it wasn't working. This was unlike usual debates; whereby he get to argued and damn the whole thing and his dad eventually give up on the discussion.
Normally, he dad should had gave up on the discussion, but the fact that he wasn't, plus he was sounding more seriously than ever, made Jerry to start believing his dad might be right on this crystal thing.
"Fine. Lets say this crystal does exist, what else do you know about it?"
His skepticism giving way to curiosity. Perhaps, the stretching trick worked, or to be precisely, Jerry was slowly giving up on the argument.
"What kind of powers does this crystal have? And how do you know it really exists?"
His father nodded, his excitement growing like the smile on his face. His son was finally on the same page with him.
"Now, the ancient texts I've found describe the crystal as a source of infinite energy, capable of performing feats that seem like magic. I know it sounds impossible, but I believe it's real. I've studied historical records and conducted careful research. There are signs that this crystal is out there, waiting to be discover."
Suddenly, it began to feel like archaeology class. Jerry heaved glaring at his dad.
'This crystal thing, better be worth everything this old man has sacrificed for it.'
