He signalled to someone behind her and they covered her nose with a handkerchief induced with drug. Her eyes widened and she began to struggle with the man but she was soon out and he ordered Matteo to take her home.
Cassio watched as Matteo hoisted Verena's limp body over his shoulder, a mixture of emotions coursing through him. Anger, frustration, and an odd sense of protectiveness warred within him as he turned his attention back to the chaos of the club. The gunfire was dying down, but the tension in the air was still thick enough to choke on.
"Make sure she's locked in her room. No one gets in or out," Cassio ordered Matteo, his voice cold and commanding. He couldn't afford any more distractions, especially not from Verena. She was becoming a problem—a problem he didn't have time to deal with right now.
