Verena's mouth hung open, he knew her name?
"Excuse me sir, have we met before? I mean before our encounter this morning?" She asked ready to deny ever meeting him forever. There was no way she was going to confess to a fucking Mafia that she slept with him.
"Do you think we have met before?" He said looming over her, his scent engulfing her.
She moved back a little, whatever this whole situation was she had to get out and fast.
Pasting a fake smile on her face, she bowed "If you would excuse me" she said and turned to go but he gripped her waist and pulled her to him
"What do you think you are doing? Get your hands off me" she said in a quiet but deadly voice.
"Now, now Verena, this isn't the way to talk to your new boss" he said lowly into her ears
"And this isn't the way to behave with your ex employee" she said as she struggled out of his grip. He released her and raised his hands up in surrender, a cocky grin on his face.
She glanced at where Sam was supposed to be and he wasn't there, the dancing girls had screamed out when the shot rang and now she was surrounded by this seemingly familiar stranger and his goons. Just great! Now there was only one way out.
She fell to her knees,"please sir, I promise I won't tell anyone what happened here, I will rem..." She was interrupted by his deep chuckle.
"You sound so confident even as you are begging, you won't? Verena, you can't tell anyone about this" He said looming over her bent figure, "I rule this city" He finished before bending to her eye level.
"Do you know how you look down here on your knees?" he said to her.
Oh no, he didn't!
She really wanted to punch his face but she was outnumbered so she clenched her fists instead.
"Are you trying to say you don't remember me from last night?"
"No" she lied, not meeting his gaze
"Or from three years ago when you tried to kill me, Scarlett"
Her face snapped up to look at him immediately she heard her code name.
"You do remember" he said, looking into her eyes.
"What do you want with me? You are alive because I didn't want to kill you." She said
"You are absolutely right, I am here because I never forget a favour" he said, standing up to sit on the sofa.
"You don't owe me anything"
"That's not up to you to decide" he said, signalling one of his men to bring a briefcase forward, he opened it and she blinked rapidly as she saw that it was filled with money. She stretched her hand to touch it but Vincent gripped her wrist and pulled her up to his lap, she flinched.
"It's all yours darling, when you become mine"
He was telling her to sell her body?
He wrapped his hands around her waist as he pulled her closer to him. She could his bulging trousers on her buttocks and tried to break free.
"Just so you know, you squirming on my laps doesn't make it any better" he growled, a deep sound that made his chest rumble, he put his face on her neck, inhaling her scent. "It took my men a month to find you and it was a torture to watch you for two months without doing anything."
She kept on wrestling until he released her and she stood up immediately from his laps. She turned to face him,
"I don't need your money, and I'm not going to be yours," she said firmly, backing away from him. "You want to thank me for saving you? You're welcome. Now let me go, and let's forget about the whole situation. Forget I saved you. Forget whatever crazy thoughts are going on in your head, and let me be."
Her words came out fast and determined as she distanced herself from him. She accidentally bumped into one of his men, who promptly parted to let her pass after seeing his boss's signal.
She quickly made her way out of the club not caring what she had on. He was a fool for thinking that he was going to find her after letting her go.
Grabbing her backpack, she ran to the subway station and boarded the train home. She headed straight to Mrs. Goody's house to pick up Emma, who was already fast asleep, smelling of cookies. Verena appreciated Mrs. Goody's care and carried Emma home, grateful that Cassio had no idea she was living with an eight-year-old girl. Gangs would stop at nothing to get what they wanted, and she knew he would have no qualms about threatening her with Emma's life.
After laying Emma on the bed, Verena checked all the windows and locked the doors before starting to pack their bags. She woke Emma up, trying to cajole her into getting dressed. "Hey baby, I just decided we need to go on a holiday; we'll be back soon."
Emma rubbed her sleepy eyes, protesting, "But we're in the middle of school."
Verena reassured her, "I know, but we'll be back." She checked her phone; it was 2:59 a.m. She went down to the car park, hoping her unridden car still had leftover gas and was still working. To her relief, it roared to life. The sedan had seen better days, but it was still useful; she had spent half her savings on it.
She drove to a motel, telling Emma to stay in the car while she checked in.
"I'd like a room, please," she said, tapping her fingers impatiently on the counter. The receptionist checked her computer before apologetically shaking her head. "Sorry, no rooms available."
Verena's frustration grew as she drove to three more motels, only to be met with the same response. One even had the audacity to offer a room to someone else right in front of her. As she walked back to her car, she noticed a Jeep parked beside it, and a man in black standing nearby. Her instincts kicked in, and she reached into her jacket pocket for her trusty stun gun.
As she approached, she saw the man chatting amiably with Emma. "Emma, who is this?" she asked, her eyes narrowing.
"Oh, this is Matt," Emma replied, smiling up at her. "He comes to Mrs Goody's house sometimes."
"Mrs Goody?"
Verena's eyes locked onto the man, and she recognized him from the club. A loud curse escaped her lips as she shot him with the stun gun, the crackle of electricity splitting the night air. But before she could react further, someone grabbed her from behind. She tried to punch him, but he held tight, yanking off her wig and revealing her fiery red curls.
As she struggled to break free, a second man appeared, injecting her with a sleeping drug. Verena managed to snatch the syringe and stab his arm with it, but her efforts were futile. The darkness closed in, and she watched in horror as a man dragged Emma out of the car.
