Unease and dread immediately replaced the intrigue and curiosity that filled Evie's eyes when Gavriel spoke of the lost empire of the fairies. She couldn't help but feel fear creeping up on her, now worrying about her father. Especially after Gavriel told of how the dragon guardians were killed and their blood used. She suspected that the dark fae must have left Dacria by now and was with them.
"Gav... will my father be alright?" she asked Gavriel, her voice laden with dread.
Gavriel turned her to face him and gently cupped her face in his palms, resting his hands beneath her ears. "Don't worry, Evie..." he assured her as he looked into her eyes, "If the dark fae had wanted your father's blood, he would have done something to him while your father was still in the imperial palace. But he didn't, right? Maybe he doesn't need the blood of another guardian now that he has been freed."
