Felix drove back to Balicano City under the cover of night. Along the way, his truck rumbled past clusters of refugee camps scattered along the roadside. Most of the migrants were huddled around makeshift fires, resting for the night. By the time Felix reached the city gates, the clock had struck midnight.
Half of the paladins had remained behind in Balicano to safeguard the city fortress, with Cornelia overseeing order and ensuring the safety of the civilians. She was patrolling the fortress when she noticed the familiar rumble of Felix's truck. Surprised to see him back so quickly, she hurried to meet him as he stepped out of the vehicle.
"You're back already? What happened? Did something go wrong? And where are my people?" Cornelia fired off her questions, glancing at the back of the truck for signs of her paladins.
