Chapter 9 - Late Arrival

It was late in the evening, Isadora was in her room talking with Piper when someone knocked on her door. She stood up to see who it was, opening the door she came face to face with Marcus.

"Your presence is required tomorrow for a meeting with Master, around 12 noon. You must get ready before then, Maxwell hates been kept waiting. I'll come pick you up and also Madam said you'll be following the children to school everyday and also picking them up when they close from school," he explained going straight to the point, as he left at once.

She closed the door, and walked back to sit beside Piper on the bed. "What have I done this time, or did he find out that I left the mansion," she thought, praying silently that it should not be all what she's thinking.

"Who was that?" Piper asked, noticing Isadora's dull mood.

"It's your driver, he came to inform me that I'll be following you girls to school," she replied in a cheerful tone, trying to hide her true feelings.

"That's cool!" Piper exclaimed, bubbling with excitement.

As the night drew to a close, Isadora took Piper to her room and settled Piper into bed, then retired to her own room, her thoughts focused on the upcoming meeting with Maxwell and a fervent hope for a positive outcome.

As dawn broke the next morning, Isadora ushered the girls through their morning routine, and once they were all set, they piled into the car. With Marcus at the wheel, they made their way to school, where he expertly deposited them at the entrance. After a smooth drop-off, Marcus returned Isadora home, where she headed straight to the garden for a chat with Mrs. Agnes, her trusted confidante.

"Hey Mrs. Agnes," Isadora said, approaching her in her favorite spot.

"Isadora, dear, how's your day starting out?" she asked.

"I'm doing well, thanks, and how about you?" Isadora replied.

"I'm thriving, thank you for asking," Mrs. Agnes said with a smile. "How was your trip to school this morning?" she inquired.

"Piper was bubbling over with chatter the whole way!" Isadora shared, and they both enjoyed a hearty laugh together.

As Isadora sat chatting with Agnes, a wave of nausea washed over her, and she couldn't fight it off any longer. She hastily excused herself and rushed to a nearby corner, where she succumbed to a bout of vomiting.

"The familiar pang of morning sickness," she thought to herself.

"Are you okay?" Mrs. Agnes asked, a worried expression on her face.

"I'm okay, I'll talk to you later," she answered and made her way to her room, leaving a suspicious expression on Mrs. Agnes face.

The moment she opened her door, taking the felt step, she felt a sharp objects Pierce through her leg as she let out a loud scream. The scream attracted the workers in the mansion including Mrs. Agnes. Blood was all over the floor as Isadora dragged out the nail she had steeped on with a scream.

Mrs. Agnes rushed to her side, with Vanessa joining her. They watched her wince in pain, as blood kept gushing out of her leg.

"Get the first aid box," Mrs. Agnes said, with urgency in her voice.

Vanessa dashed out of the room, coming back a few minutes later with the box tightly clutched to her hand. She handed Mrs. Agnes the box, and she sprung into action immediately. She cleaned the wound with antiseptic and cotton wool despite Isadora's persistent cries of discomfort. Then she bandaged the wound, and with the help of other workers they lifted her up from the floor.

"She still need medical attention," Mrs. Agnes said looking at the messy floor. She asked one of the cleaners to tidy the place while she escorted Isadora to the hospital for further treatment.

They couldn't find Marcus inside the building, nor any other driver. They had no choice than to use a taxi, only after explaining to the security guards were they granted access to leave the mansion. Mrs. Agnes and Vanessa accomplished her to the hospital, as they were constantly trying to ease the pain she was feeling.

On getting to the hospital, she was immediately attended to. The doctor's report came back to them after waiting for some minutes, she was reported okay after giving her proper treatment.

Isadora laid on the hospital bed, as her mind havoured around who would do such evil to her. While in her thoughts, Mrs. Agnes and Vanessa entered into the room.

"How are you feeling?" Mrs. Agnes asked.

"Much better," she answered.

"I need to leave now but Vanessa would stay here with you okay," Mrs. Agnes informed and Isadora shook her head in understanding as she left.

Soon after Mrs. Agnes departed, Isadora drifted off to sleep. When she awoke, she was surprised to find Marcus seated next to her, gazing at her intently, instead of Vanessa.

"You're late," was the first word that came from his mouth.

"What do you mean I'm late, and where is Vanessa?" She asked, sitting upright.

"You're late for your meeting with Maxwell, and Vanessa left as soon as I arrived here not long ago," he explained, clearifying Isadora.

Remembering the meeting, she checked her time and it was past 12. Fear engulf her, but the thought of her predicament, easiened the tension that was already building up inside her.

"It's better to know Maxwell's is not going to spare you," he informed her, standing up from her seat.

"But it's not my fault, I got injured," she argued, trying to justify herself.

"Try explaining that to Maxwell, he takes no excuses. Let's go," he replied, walking out of the room.

"Is he that heartless," Isadora thought as she wore her slippers, and slowly walked behind Maxwell. She met the doctor on her way, and he prescribed some medication for her to ease the pain.

Marcus was already waiting for her as she got outside, as she entered into the car, Marcus sped off at once, not willing to waste even a second there.

Marcus pulled over in front of a restaurant, Isadora couldn't help but wonder if this was the venue. She thought it would be a meeting in his office or something more formal.

"Table No. 7 in the VIP section," Marcus said, handling her a card.

She collected the card, and got out of the car with hopes of Maxwell hearing her out. When she got inside, she showed the card to the host she saw at the entrance of the restaurant. She was given direction to where she would find the VIP section.

Entering the place, she spotted table No. 7 and without hesitation she walked over to the table.

"I'm sorry for coming late...I was involved.." she started but a sharp slap cut across her face, sending her to the floor.

"How dare you!" He shouted, anger written all over his face.
