They were talking about random stuff when the maid showed up, informing them that dinner was ready. Julie popped her head out of the room to see if Mrs. Heathrow was there. She didn't find Mrs. Heathrow but a young man in a gray suit talking with Kylian. Seeing those green eyes made her instantly know who he was. She immediately popped her head back into the room.
"What is Laurent doing here Kyrie?" She said softly. Kyrielle, who was applying makeup on her face turned and said, "Sorry I forgot to tell you, Laurent's family was also coming over, although I highly doubt his mom will show up, she and my mom aren't on the best of terms."
"How could you forget something so important?" She wailed. Kyrie put on her lipstick and said, "You've got this Jules! Come over here."
She walked to her makeup table. Kyrie dropped the lipstick on the table and made Julie sit in front of the mirror. She was about to apply the foundation on her face when Julie stopped her. "What's wrong?" She asked. "I don't like putting on makeup. I had this whole set but discarded it a week after I came here because I felt it wasn't necessary and because my grandma would kill me if I got rid of it back home," she blabbed. "Just this one time Julianne, please? Plus, you'll look pretty! Even Laurent will have to admit it," she pleaded. "You think he will?" She said, her face lightening up. "Of course he will!" She assured. She closed her eyes and let her apply the makeup. When she was done, she stared curiously at her reflection in the mirror. Her face looked completely different. She sighed and they walked out of the room. As they made their way to the dining room, she received a text on her phone. She was reading it and at the same time, walking. She unexpectedly bumped into someone. The stranger turned and once she saw his eyes, she knew he was no stranger.
"Julianne, you look…different," He mumbled.
"I know, sorry about that by the way," she said in an embarrassed tone. She walked away, feeling like he was staring at her. She dismissed the thought and caught up with Kyrie, who was way ahead. They finally reached the dining area. Kyrie had arranged the seating, making sure Laurent and Julianne sat opposite each other. As they ate, she stole glances at Laurent, feeling like a child seeking attention. She frowned at her behavior and focused on her meal instead. Meanwhile, Kylian and Kyrie excused themselves from the table. "Is it just me, or do you see sparks between them?" he asked, referring to Laurent and Julianne. "I think they just need some alone time," she said plainly. They glanced at the couple and then retreated into the manor.
"What does Kyrie want again?" she said, annoyed. She had received a text from Kyrie telling her to come to the garden. Looking around, she saw no one else in the garden. She grumbled as she sat on the bench. She couldn't help admiring the flowers, from the daisies to the roses. Her curiosity was piqued by the white roses and she found herself wondering why they were so white. Suddenly, she heard someone curse and turned to see who it was. She flinched once she saw his eyes. He almost tripped on a rock. Sensing he wasn't alone in the garden, he lifted his head.
"What are you doing here?" He asked. "I…um…I was um…" she stuttered. Hearing her stutter amused him. He made his way to the bench she was sitting on. Sitting next to her, he noticed how uncomfortable she was. He sighed and said, "Have you seen Kylian around here?"
She shook her head. "Great," he muttered before slouching on the bench. She couldn't help but stare at him, gazing into his eyes. Noticing her stare at him, he arched his eyebrows and said, "Is there something on my face or what?"
"No, um… your face is perfect," she said, embarrassed. He laughed upon hearing her reply. "It's not that funny. You don't have to laugh so much," she said, annoyed. Subduing his laughter, he said, "Sorry about that. It was just…" before laughing again. She grumbled and turned away. Sensing her anger, he stopped and said, "I truly am sorry."
"It's fine," she mumbled. "What are you doing here?" He asked. "Kyrie told me to come here," She said. They remained silent for a while. For a moment, she thought he was looking at her. She felt her heart leap in excitement. But he was only looking at the roses next to her.
"Why are they white? Shouldn't they be red?" she asked.
"You sound like the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, insisting all roses must be red. I don't know why they're white."
She nodded before staring at the unusual roses. Once more, she thought she felt him stare at her. She shook the thought off. But this time, he was staring at her. Their eyes met for a second. She wondered if he felt the tension between them. "Why did you put on makeup?" He asked.
"I don't know, Kyrie said I should I guess…Why, you don't like it?"
"Makeup is for bitches who try to look pretty on the outside, knowing that they're ugly on the inside. Girls like you don't need it, besides, you're way prettier without the makeup."
She felt her cheeks warm up with his remark. "Thanks for the compliment," she blushed. He dipped his hand into his suit pocket. Retrieving his handkerchief, he neatly folded it and wiped the makeup off her face. She gazed at his eyes once more and said, "You have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen."
He laughed at her comment. "Thanks," he said, "You have beautiful eyes too."
They gazed at each other for a while. He leaned towards her slowly. She felt his warm hot breath move towards her lips. She knew what was going to happen although she had never been kissed before. She felt like her heart was going to combust. Suddenly, they heard rustling in the bushes. He moved away, got up from the bench, and walked cautiously towards the bush. Sensing that they were caught, Kyrie and Kylian ran off. They chuckled seeing them run off, realizing that they arranged for all that. "Now," he continued, "Where were we?"
He pulled her close to himself once again. She felt his warm breath on her once more. Closing her eyes, she waited for the feel of his lips on hers. But it didn't happen. He chuckled and wiped off the sauce on her lips. She opened her eyes in shock. "Goodbye, Julie," he said before leaving her in the garden. Her mouth was agape, still in shock. She angrily stomped her feet on the ground, grumbling as she walked out of the garden.
