They stopped at the front of the door, waiting with her family members. Her screams could be heard from inside. Her parents prayed, and her sister cried. Everyone seemed tense, everyone except him and his mother. They waited outside, showing zero expressions on their faces, not caring whether she died or survived.
"You'll make a terrible husband." She briefly said.
"I'm very much aware of that." He chuckled. They waited for more than an hour. After a while, the doctor emerged from the room and explained that she couldn't deliver the baby naturally, so they had to do a cesarean section. Her parents immediately agreed and signed the necessary documents. She was wheeled from the labor room to the theatre, with her parents and sister by her side. She was taken into the theater, where her family waited outside, crying and praying. After a while, they heard the cry of a baby. The doctor came out shortly after, informing them that the operation was successful. She was wheeled back to the maternity ward, where her family still followed the nurse. To their surprise, they discovered that she had given birth to twins, increasing their happiness. The children were brought to her, and she cradled them in her arms. Finally, Julian and Doris casually strolled into the ward, laughing and chattering as though they had no idea what had happened.
"Look here Julian.", she said excitedly, "I've given birth to twins!"
He glanced in her direction and stared at the twins. Seeing them, he nodded. This angered her and she suddenly shouted.
"What's wrong dear? Why did you shout?" Mrs. Wilson asked, her voice full of concern.
"You see Mom, Julian doesn't care about me! Each time I say it, you guys just ignore me!" She said, still shouting.
"Relax dear. Why don't you console her Julian?" Her father requested.
He sighed and slowly got up from the chair that he sat on. He walked to the crib where the twins lay, still staring at them. They had dirty-blonde hair and bright blue eyes unlike their mother, who had strawberry-blond hair. "Weird…" He thought but didn't say anything about it. He picked up the girl and watched her squiggle in his arms. This amused him, making him chuckle. Lori was delighted by his actions, expressing her emotions in her sudden laughter. "What should we call them?" She asked.
"I haven't thought of names." He said, scratching the back of his neck.
Frowning, she said, "You've got to be kidding me. You've been aware that I've been pregnant for the past eight months and it didn't cross your mind that your child would have a name!"
Her father wanted to speak up but was interrupted by his mother. "Let it be Lorraine.", she said, "You don't have to nag so much. It's annoying.", she finally ended in a pissed tone.
"But I just…"
"Let it be Lori." Her father said, interrupting her.
Filled with anger, she buried her head under the sheets, refusing to speak. Her sister went to her side, trying to console her. Her parents finally went to her side, still in a bid to comfort her.
"Seems like you'll also make a terrible father." His mother added. "Seems like it." He concisely said.
"I have a name for the twins Lori, that's if you want to hear it," Ronda said, still consoling her. She popped her head out of the sheets and slowly nodded. "How about Kyrielle and Kylian?" She said with lots of enthusiasm. Lori's face broke into a bright smile and she said, "I love the names! What do you think Julian?"
"They'll do…" He said in boredom.
They stayed in silence for a while. Mr. Wilson cleared his throat and finally spoke up. "Mrs. Heathrow, now that Lori has given birth to the kids, don't you think it's high time they get married? They have graduated from college and are old enough to…"
"Yes of course Howard!" She said with an air of dominance, "It is high time they got married!"
"This calls for a celebration!" Mrs. Wilson said excitedly.
"Yes, it does Regina. I'll see you at the manor by 6 p.m. sharp" Mrs. Heathrow replied casually.
"Thank you so much, Mrs. Heathrow." Mr. Wilson replied happily.
"Please Howard, call me Doris."
"Of course."
Upon hearing these words, Lori grinned from ear to ear. She couldn't believe that all her hard work had finally paid off. However, Julian didn't feel the same way. Hearing their chatter fueled a rage in him. After he had heard enough, he stormed out of the ward, much to the surprise of everyone, except Doris. She followed him as he walked out. Seeing him leave made Lori cry. Once again, she became the center of attention as her family crowded around her to comfort her.
"Why did he go so soon?" She cried, "I thought the birth of the twins would make him care a little about me but it didn't change anything!"
"Calm down Lori, I'm sure he cares about you," Ronda said calmly, trying to make her relax.
"What if he dumps me the same way Adrian dumped you? What if he runs off with Hannah? I won't be able to cope!"
"You just had to bring Adrian into this didn't you?" She said, trying to control her tone.
"It's not like I'm lying. We were all there when he openly called off the wedding!" She continued, not minding her sister's feelings.
"Can you just stop talking Lori!" She shouted.
"Watch your tone, Ronda! You're older and supposed to be more mature! Your sister has just given birth but yet you still argue with her?" Her father said enraged.
"Father, didn't you hear what she said?" Ronda shouted. "Why does she always act like this? She's so immature! She's publicly insulting me and you still don't care. Maybe it's because I didn't get married to some rich guy like you wanted, but I've found out that I'm much better without Adrian Hathaway! He got a girl pregnant for Christ's sake! And you, Lori, I advise you not to get married to Julian because, in his eyes, you're nothing more than a filthy piece of cloth!"
"What is wrong with you child?" Regina screamed.
"Get out Ronda! And don't bother coming for the celebrations!" Howard said in a harsh tone.
She lightly chuckled. Picking up her leather jacket and purse she said, "I was about leaving anyway. And also, I wasn't even planning on coming to the party."
She wore the jacket over the black shirt she had on. As she flung her straight blond hair, she gracefully walked out of the ward. Lori began to throw a tantrum, and Regina tried to calm her down, while Howard simply stared into space.
