On Monday, Emily went to the doctor to confirm her pregnancy. Unlike six years ago, this time, a wave of happiness washed over her at the news. She decided to keep it a secret and surprise Alex by announcing it after their ceremony on Friday. Over the next few days, Emily noticed that Alex was increasingly busy. She barely had any time with him, and even when he was home, he was always on his phone. Though Emily tried to dismiss her concerns, the pregnancy hormones made it hard for her to stay calm.
On Thursday, just as she was about to leave work, Carla called her in a hurry. "Emily, come and check out a wedding venue at Gotham Hall early tomorrow morning with me—7 a.m. sharp!" Carla's request caught Emily off guard. Gotham Hall was one of the most expensive venues in Manhattan, and she couldn't believe Carla was planning something there. On top of that, it was the same day Emily had planned to get married at City Hall.
