As she took in the surroundings, Emily felt a pang of confusion and longing for familiarity. This was supposed to be her home, with Alex and her twins, yet it felt like stepping into someone else's life. She turned to Alex, who was watching her with a mixture of concern and patience, silently hoping that being in this place would bring back the memories she so desperately sought. Then Alex told her that the twins and her best friend Carla were in Brooklyn with her Dad who had come to New York to visit them the day before.
"I didn't tell them about your... condition. Do you want to?" Alex asked tentatively.
"No," Emily interrupted. "I don't want them to worry about me. Now that I'm back, that's all that matters." She glanced up at Alex, who gave a small nod, his blue eyes warm and a hint of a smile on his lips.
"How did you recognize me? You didn't ask who I was when you took me from the hotel." Alex asked curiously.
