The next morning, Emily woke to the shrill sound of her alarm, signalling it was time to get the twins ready for school. Groggily, she reached for her phone on the nightstand and, without opening her eyes, checked for any messages. There was still nothing from Alex. She sighed and forced herself out of bed.
As she walked into the living room, she was greeted by the sight of the twins already having breakfast, which Carla had prepared.
"Morning," Carla greeted her warmly.
"Morning, Carla. You're up so early," Emily replied, a hint of surprise in her voice.
"I woke up Auntie Carla this morning. Her bedroom is next to mine," Emma chimed in, taking a big sip of juice to help swallow her food.
Carla and Emily exchanged a knowing look. Emily's thoughts were elsewhere, but she managed a smile. "I'll hire a nanny soon," she promised.
