Chapter 89 - I Lost the Scepter

Courtney looked at the exploded stone, stunned.

Brainwave was also a bit taken aback by what had just happened, momentarily frozen.

The next second, Brainwave's body suddenly leaned forward, his eyes widened, and he bent over like a cooked shrimp.

His abdomen was hit with an unbearable impact, and the pain instantly spread throughout his body.

The moment he tried to stand up despite the pain, his chest was hit again, sending him flying backward.

He crashed to the ground with a thud.

The tires that were hit by the impact bounced to the side.

As Brainwave's back touched the ground, he felt a dizzying sensation, and his vision went black.

The sharp pain in his chest, abdomen, and back assaulted his consciousness.

"Although you have abilities similar to Magneto and Professor X, your body is incredibly fragile."

Eric stood still, watching the fallen Brainwave, and said coldly.

"When?"

Courtney blinked in confusion.

Why hadn't she seen anything just now?

She looked at Eric, who was standing motionless, and already considered him a more terrifying villain than the Injustice Society.

"Ugh…!"

Brainwave, clutching his chest, stood up, his eyes glowing like those of a beast.

He slightly spread his hands and closed his eyes.

The ground began to tremble slightly, and the metal walls of the tire factory shook violently.

Streetlights and signposts outside the factory were uprooted and rushed towards Eric with a whistling sound.

Boom!

The sound of metal colliding rang out, making Courtney's ears buzz, with more blood flowing from them.

When she opened her eyes, she found that Eric had already disappeared from his original spot and was now in front of Brainwave, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him into the air.

Brainwave's face turned red, surrounded by humiliation and anger. Using all his strength, he reached out and touched Eric's head.

He activated his ability, trying to affect Eric's brainwaves and attack him mentally.

The moment Brainwave touched Eric's head, he also activated his mind-reading ability, attempting to read Eric's thoughts and emotions while disturbing his brainwaves to make him experience unbearable pain.

But as soon as he activated his mind-reading ability, he felt as if he had fallen into a quagmire.

Countless strange and terrifying entities invaded his mind through his fingers.

The pain was so intense that it felt like being tortured a hundred times by indescribable monsters in the depths of an abyss, corrupting his mental power.

"Ahhh!"

Brainwave roared, intensifying his mental attack on Eric while resisting the mental backlash.

Eric, irritated and even feeling dizzy from Brainwave's disturbance, emitted a beam of laser light from his eyes, ready to finish him off.

But the staff Eric had stuck into the ground suddenly moved!

With a swoosh, it leapt into the air and fired an energy beam at Eric and Brainwave.

Eric, frowning, merely extended a hand to block the energy blast from the staff.

Boom!

A massive explosion occurred, with flames shooting up into the sky.

"?

Seeing the staff suddenly attack, Courtney was stunned.

When did the staff become so powerful?

As the smoke cleared and the flames from the explosion subsided, a shocking scene appeared before Courtney's eyes.

Eric stood in place, maintaining his outstretched hand, completely unscathed.

It seemed the explosion caused by the staff hadn't harmed him at all!

"Gulp!"

What kind of monster is this guy?

Being able to block an explosion with one hand defies all scientific logic!

Swallowing her saliva and mentally complaining, Courtney felt that her fate might be sealed.

On the other side, Eric glanced at the staff, then turned to look at Brainwave, who was still in his grasp.

Due to the psychic barrier Brainwave had constructed in front of himself at the moment of the explosion, and because Eric had blocked most of the damage, he was barely injured by the blast.

"Ugh!"

But in the next second!

With a groan, Brainwave didn't wait for Eric to act. His head tilted, and he passed out.

"?

Eric looked at the unconscious Brainwave, frowning.

After checking to make sure he wasn't faking, Eric let go, letting Brainwave's body fall heavily to the ground.

"What happened to him?"

Courtney asked Eric nervously.

"Stroke."

Eric replied casually, then turned to the staff floating motionless in the air.

"Stroke?"

Courtney found it absurd.

Isn't a stroke caused by problems in the brain's control center, like a brain hemorrhage or infarction?

Brainwave is a guy who controls others' thoughts. How could he have a stroke himself?

She found this outcome incredibly ridiculous.

Ignoring the "Little Stargirl" lying on the ground, Eric grabbed the staff. Under her astonished gaze, he held the staff with one hand, bent his legs slightly, and with a whoosh, flew into the sky like a meteor, then disappeared.

".

Courtney, still bound by the metal bars, stared wide-eyed at his disappearing figure.

"Hey! Jerk, don't leave, give me back my staff!"

Seeing him take her staff, Courtney couldn't help but shout.

She struggled to break free.

But without her staff as a weapon, she, an ordinary person, couldn't break free.

A few weeks ago, she was just a high school girl who liked gymnastics. Suddenly gaining powers, she didn't know how to cope without her staff.

As she struggled, a rumbling sound came from afar.

With a thud, a huge armored robot landed beside her.

The silver-armored robot, equipped with powerful combat weapons, landed with a crash, startling Courtney.

The evil aura from the armor made it look like a villain.

Courtney felt a chill in her heart and tried harder to break the metal bars.

"Hurry up, you can do it!"

She muttered to herself, gritting her teeth and trying to free herself.

"Courtney!"

A familiar voice came from the armor.

Startled, Courtney looked up at the robot.

"Are you... Pat?"

"Yes, it's me, Pat. Actually, I have another identity: I'm Stargirl's partner, a member of the Justice Society—Stripesy!"

Pat, Courtney's stepfather and the operator of the armored robot, introduced himself while using the mechanical arm to break the bars restraining her.

"Courtney, it looks like you've encountered some trouble."

"I..."

Courtney stood up, looking blankly in the direction where Eric had disappeared, and said, "I lost the staff."
