Chapter 88 - The Grave is Where You Should Be

Despite feeling that the tire factory ahead was filled with an extremely dangerous aura, the strong curiosity drew her in.

Inside the spacious factory, rows of tires were neatly arranged, and the pale white light from the lamps made the surroundings even more eerie.

Courtney had just taken two steps when she saw a figure standing in the darkness not far from her.

Before she could react, her body immediately felt out of control, as if an invisible force was pulling her into the air.

"Who are you?!"

Click! Click! Click! The sound of slow footsteps and a questioning voice accompanied a figure emerging from the shadows.

A middle-aged man with a trench coat, short blonde hair, and a sinister look on his face stared at the suspended Courtney, "Why do you have the staff?"

Seeing that she was just struggling without answering, the man shook his head and reached out to grab her.

Courtney was instantly pulled towards the man by an invisible force, her feet dragging on the ground along the corridor.

Clenching her teeth and resisting with all her might, Courtney could not withstand this telekinesis-like power.

"Help... help me!"

Courtney looked at the staff, hoping the weapon in her hand could help her.

But the staff, which seemed to have intelligence like a robot, did not respond at all, and its light even dimmed slightly.

"Won't say anything, will you?"

With a thud, the man grabbed the dragged Courtney by the neck with one hand and held her head with the other.

"No matter, I can read what I want from your mind."

The man looked at her coldly, "I sense your loneliness, you have no one to rely on, no friends, your heart is desolate. Your father..."

He paused, frowning, "Why are you thinking about your father?"

Courtney, resisting with gritted teeth, didn't respond to him and urgently spoke to the staff in her hand, "Please, do something, help me!"

Buzz! Suddenly, a golden light emitted from the staff.

The staff swung towards the man, and a wave of energy from the top of the staff shot directly at him.

The man had to let go of Courtney and dodge the energy beam.

"Whoosh!"

Taking the chance to escape, Courtney panted heavily.

But before she could catch her breath, the man controlled several tires to attack her.

Taking a deep breath, Courtney held the staff, jumped up, and, with her gymnastic training, avoided the first tire using the staff like a bar.

Landing, she used the staff like a high bar, performing a spin to dodge the second incoming tire.

With a series of graceful gymnastic moves, she evaded all the incoming tires.

Thud! Landing steadily, Courtney held the staff, aiming it at the man using telekinesis to attack her.

A beam of energy shot towards the man.

Boom! A huge explosion sounded!

A fireball erupted in the warehouse.

The blast from the staff caused massive damage and impact.

Flames shot up, scattering everywhere, and nearby tires were blown off and crashed to the ground with a loud noise.

Taking the opportunity, Courtney ran outside.

Jumping on the staff, she flew low towards the door of the tire factory.

A steel bar whistled through the air towards Courtney.

Standing on the staff, Courtney jumped up, dodging the steel bar with a somersault.

Landing on the staff again, another steel bar attacked from below.

It knocked Courtney to the ground.

"Squeak!" The steel bar bent under the man's telekinesis, binding Courtney's hands.

"Ugh...!"

Struggling against the binding steel bar, Courtney tried to reach for the staff not far from her.

Her fingers were just inches away, but she couldn't reach it no matter how hard she tried.

"The moment I saw you, I was very worried, thinking I saw Star-Man. But now, I'm relieved. You're just a poor imitation, a foolish little Star-Girl."

With a sneer, the man took off his gloves and leaned closer to the struggling Courtney.

"You hurt my son and destroyed his car. I know it was you. Now, I'll enjoy tormenting you!"

He pressed his hand on Courtney's head, his face showing a look of pleasure.

"It's been so long since I enjoyed this."

As the man pressed down, Courtney felt a needle-like pain pierce her brain.

It was as if a red-hot thorn was burrowing into her mind.

Clenching her teeth in pain, she couldn't hold back her scream.

"Ah!!"

Blood oozed from her ears!

Whoosh! A sudden gust of wind blew past them.

The man stopped tormenting Courtney, looking up in confusion.

He saw a young man playing with the staff he had picked up.

"Who are you?!"

The man released Courtney, looking at the sudden appearance of Eric.

Planting the staff in the ground, Eric glanced at the man and asked nonchalantly, "Strong mental power, able to use telekinesis to influence others' brainwaves and create magnetic fields. You're 'Brainwave,' a member of the Injustice Society, right?"

Bound by the steel bar and unable to move, Courtney saw someone coming and thought it was a rescue. But realizing it was the guy who claimed to be from the Injustice Society during the day, she felt despair again.

However, hearing Eric's tone, which didn't seem aligned with Brainwave, her hope reignited.

"Who are you?" Brainwave frowned at Eric.

"You don't need to know that now."

Eric glanced at Courtney on the ground and shook his head.

"I thought those tight-suited freaks from the last century were all dead. Didn't expect to see a living fossil."

"...!"

Furious at Eric's taunt, Brainwave gritted his teeth, "Hand over the staff!"

"You mean this?"

Eric pointed at the staff planted in the ground and said, "Come and get it yourself."

Despite Eric's confident demeanor, Brainwave hesitated.

"Don't give it to him! He's from the Injustice Society!"

Courtney shouted at Eric from the ground.

Even though she didn't want the staff to fall into the hands of this strange peer, she less wanted it to go to Brainwave.

Taking advantage of Eric's distraction, Brainwave used his power to hurl a stone pillar at Eric's head.

Boom! But the rapidly moving stone pillar exploded before it touched Eric.
