Chapter 22 - River

Raze moved through the forest with his spear.

He was on high alert and making sure not to make any unnecessary noise.

There weren't many monsters around the area, and even the ones that were present were few in number.

'Maybe the luck I never had in my past life has finally caught up with me,' he jokingly thought.

Eventually, after 20 minutes of walking, he finally reached the river, and as expected, a few monsters were already gathered there.

Thankfully, they all looked pretty weak, and there weren't that many present in the first place.

six one-horned racoons calmly drinking water from the river, and one feral beast hound.

Both races seemed to be in harmony and weren't attacking each other.

They just calmly drank water from the river while ignoring each other's existence.

Aside from these seven monsters, there didn't seem to be anyone or anything that could pose a threat nearby.

Raze was still hidden behind a bush a few hundred metres away from the spot and was observing the scene with [Farsight].

Since they still didn't know of his existence, now was the perfect time to snipe them from afar safely.

Taking out the trusty bow that he had been relying on for this whole floor, he affixed three arrows to it before rotating the whole thing horizontally.

A small blue gate also manifested to the right of him as the tip of a steel knife poked out.

He wasn't really worried about missing thanks to his class benefits or about the distance, as he had already sniped from much farther away in the past.

The only thing that slightly worried him was that there were more monsters nearby that somehow escaped notice from his [Farsight], but he couldn't afford to worry about them now.

Having steadied his hand and locked sight on his target, he released his hand as the arrows flew through the air.

Rapidly making way towards their unsuspecting targets, and the same for the knife fired from his gate, which headed towards the feral beast.

~swish~

A whistle sound was made by the projectiles flying through the air, but it was too silent to be heard until it was too late.

By the time the monsters were able to hear the sound, they were already dead.

Three one-horned racoons and one feral beast had died in just a single moment without even knowing what had happened.

The remaining racoons started panicking and attempted to flee, but their panicked movement was made all the more obvious thanks to [Farsight], and they were sniped mere moments later.

This was the terror and might of a sniper capable of killing others from afar without even needing to show them.

While their combat ability was limited in close to midrange or if their location was compromised, as long as they could maintain their distance and stay hidden, they were unbeatable.

Even after killing the monsters, Raze didn't show himself, instead choosing to stay hidden, waiting for some abomination to show itself.

After roughly 5 minutes of waiting when nothing showed itself, he finally got out of his hiding spot and moved towards the river, hoping to finally get some water and also claim the bodies of his prey.

The bodies, or monsters, were really valuable for a number of reasons and could also be sold to the tower for TP.

While others couldn't really claim the bodies of their hunt inside the tower due to difficulty carrying them,.

The same wasn't the case for Raze with his inventory; while his innate rune wasn't the best in combat, the sheer amount of utility it provided was almost unmatched.

So it would be stupid to not take full advantage of it.

Once he was done collecting the bodies of victims, he moved away from the spot and quickly shifted his attention towards the river.

There was still monster blood on the ground, which was sure to attract other abominable beasts, not to mention that the river itself was already a hotspot, which was sure to attract many nearby beasts.

One's which he had no intention of meeting.

He had only come to drink some water to sustain his body and leave, which was exactly what he planned to do.

"Hopefully this water is safe," he silently muttered, hoping to not get any weird diseases from drinking water from a river in the tower.

'The monsters drinking from it earlier seemed fine, so it should probably be safe' he convinced himself before bending down to take some water in his hand and drink it all in one gulp.

~gulp~

Once the wet water made its way through his parched and dry mouth, Raze felt a kind of bliss like he had rarely felt before.

It was truly a heavenly experience, as he finally understood why all the people in movies often dreamed about water in the desert.

Being able to drink cold and fresh water after not having drank anything for multiple days was a kind of blissful experience that he couldn't really explain to someone who hadn't felt it before.

'Since I have water elements, I wonder if I'll be able to make drinking water in the future.' It was a simple passing thought.

But the prospect of not needing sources of water in the future and just being able to make his own is really exciting.

Raze spent the next few minutes doing nothing but enjoying the cold and fresh water. Of course, he was still attentive to his surroundings to not get snuck up on.

"Ah, that felt good," he beamed, glad to have made the decision to come to this river.

Over the last few minutes, he hadn't just drank water but also tried to carry some in his inventory, which he failed miserably in.

He could probably do it if he put it in a bottle or cannister first before placing it in his inventory. Too bad he didn't have either of those with him at the moment.

"Oh, well, it is what it is," he consoled himself.

Now that he was done drinking, he was preparing to leave the area and go far away to finally start working towards clearing the mission.

As he had already fixed his food and water problems while also scouting the area around him and failing to find anything of note.

Which led him to conclude that the settlement was in another part of the forest.

However, before he could start moving, he was distracted by a loud growl that came from behind him.
