In this time and era the existence of the supernatural has been proven, as technology advanced a lot of unknown history and relics was uncovered. There has been findings of witch craft, events involved with demonology, and many more supernatural phenomena that was only speculation and myths previously. It was discovered that the reason these supernatural phenomena was even possible was because it was supported by a source termed negative energy.
Upon the discovery of negative energy scientists and secret organizations began a frenzy of experimentation in order to learn how to utilize the source of energy. This eventually led to many cases of demon summoning, voodoo happenings, sacrificing, possession, spirit contracts, evil relics and even supernatural abilities began to appear in humans and beast due to experimentation and spread of negative energy . These supernatural abilities would be termed cursed traits. It seemed that the more technology advanced, the more evil and supernatural was discovered in tombs, black sites and secret caverns. Some organizations developed ways to utilize and produce negative energy which lead to the study and practice of evil arts and rituals.
After a period of chaos that lasted for about 35 years, order began to prevail due to the changes in societal structure. Negative energy and everything that it encompasses has become irreversibly rooted into the way of the world and continued to advance along with technology, this led to the current era, named the Era of Dark Stars.
There was now a well developed power system for Those who possessed traits. The main way to strengthen traits was to absorbed negative energy, but there was other ways, sometimes more beneficial ways. There was ways to make qualitative changes and even evolve the trait such as fusing them with relics treasures, or unique items; absorbing qualities from compatible natural phenomena, or making contracts with demons or spirits.
Since negative energy was so potent, sturdy and persistent it was impossible to cultivate your trait and abilities without strengthening your Mind and "Will". Mental energy and Will Power are two different things. The Mind/Mental energy is more pertaining to the soul which is a fragile thing, but Will is like the consciousness, it can strengthen as well as protect the body and mind. Mental energy grows with your Will power, in turn the soul sturdier and denser.
You cannot continue to progress in certain levels of trait development without causing an evolution or a break through in Will power.
Those who are special are called supernaturals. There are two main types of supernaturals, they are Spell casters and Trait masters, there is also dualist who fall under the category of both. There are also other unorthodox supernaturals, such as possessed, Soul Forms, and abominations.
Spell Casters are supernaturals who doesn't have a trait but has the ability to use negative energy to temper their mind/soul in order to cast spells through a spell matrix internally and other ways externally. Spells are extremely special as there is an indeterminable amount of them, and there is infinite paths and possibilities when it comes to them. Spells can be cast through spell matrixes and using, ancient languages and writing, materials, spirits, enchantments, combinations of those and more.
Trait Masters are supernaturals that have a traits. Traits naturally absorbs negative energy, so trait masters will Intuitively begin cultivating. Traits can manifest as special physical properties, something engrained in the body, or a physical/ethereal phenomena bound to the trait masters. Some traits can be as simple as elongated jagged nails that's toxic or manifest wings. Some more advanced traits can be merging with shadows, a gaze that can send you into an illusion forever or even take your soul….
