Asundi stood motionless outside the king's chamber, her ears pressed against the door. She was straining to hear what was being said inside the room, without making her presence known. Her posture was tensed either from anticipation or from dread.
The guard's approach was quiet, but Asundi's head turned slightly, her veil rusting softly. She knew she had been discovered.
"What are you doing here?" the guard asked gruffly, his eyes burning with suspicion.
Asundi slowly turned to face him, her movements fluid and confident. Her throat emitted a low growl showing her rank and position, thus in a way telling the man that his question was unwarranted. Her piercing eyes flashed with defiance and challenge.
