My eyes gently drifted open at the soft splattering of water harmlessly dripping off the side of my cloth tent. A gentle sunlight enriched the small room giving a comfortable homely feel.
It feels like the first proper sleep I've gotten in months.
Stretching my arms out I slowly manoeuvred out of bed and threw on a few raggedy-looking clothing.
I exited the tent and stared up across the grey-clouded sky with the occasional beam of sunlight adamantly forcing its way through. The light rain droplets fell harmlessly into my coat as I trundled through the camp.
Today would usually hold a lesson with Lorath but due to my somewhat rushed promotion that changed today.
I travelled the now familiar route over to the throne room. The common rats cleared a path for me with many not daring to even look up at me. It seems I have grown enough now to be respected even amongst such a rabid society. Fear truly is the best driving factor for loyalty.
Eventually, I came back to the familiar large tent and pushed my way inside.
The tent was largely the same with the only exception of a few miscellaneous items strewn around the place in clearly set-up positions.
In the centre of the objects was a small sitting cushion which I quickly settled down on.
"Welcome to your impromptu training young one"
The rat sat in the same pose it always did on the large throne. I wonder if he ever moves off that throne. It seems every time I see him he's in the same place.
"Greeting my Lord, I am ready and willing"
I added a small bow to my words as Lorath had taught me to do.
"Please demonstrate these powers for me, I want to see where you are at, that pot there devour it"
Taking a deep breath in I allowed my body to relax feeling the power running deep in my blood. Focusing my mind on one smooth thought I expelled the power allowing it to seep out from my body.
The sea of colours expanded around me as I gently led it closer towards the pot. The colours shot towards the pot submerging it into the sea. The pot dissolved into a mix of softer brown colours before melting and joining the rest of the sea.
Focusing my mind again I pulled back at the sea feeling its energy return to my body. Before long the room returned to its previous state. Both the pot and colours are now absent.
"hmm, that was rudimentary but good for an untrained user.
Firstly you should not control all of the colours at once. Each colour is dedicated to a different usage. Learns these usages and use them accordingly. Listen closely, I will not repeat myself.
There are 12 major colours in the prism. You being an apprentice will only be able to use two individually. Blue and Red"
What makes me an apprentice I wonder.
"Red is the essence of devouring itself. It represents the quintessential power of the prism, to destroy. The red colour will devour an object into the prism. There are strict limiters to how much you can devour depending on the size of your prism.
Your prism size is limited to the percentage of the characteristics that you own. The scale is however not linear. Having 10 per cent and having 20 per cent does not necessarily mean one of you will have double the size.
Your second colour will be blue. The end product of devour. Excretion. The colour blue allows for materials within the prism to be excreted and reused. For example, using the clay from the pot to form a shield. The quality and intricacy of the object is determined by your control of the colour and your percentage.
It's quite simple, Any questions"
Simple my fucking ass.
"Two, I have two questions.
First, if I can only control red and blue why has the whole prism moved with my command previously?
Secondly, you referred to me as an apprentice and in the goblin stronghold they called Skulk an artisan, why."
"You are an inquisitive young child.
To answer your first question, you managed to control the whole prism because you had no idea of any other options. By willing all the colours to one place you cause them all to interwind and therefore despite really only moving red and blue the others join along. This however provides worse results than just using one.
By combining red and blue alone you are attempting to both devour and excrete an object all at once slowing the whole process down. Thankfully you are unable to use any of the other colour abilities or you may have had even more catastrophic results.
To answer your second question, you are an apprentice because you are newly awakened. There are at least 4 different ranks that I know of. The first being novice, that's what you are. The second is artisan, which is what that goblin is. The third is Maven, and the fourth is Prodigy.
Your rank is dependent on many different factors with the main ones being experience and percentage. The difference between rank differs from rank to rank. Hower apprentice and artisan are very similar being more a difference of control and experience rather than a difference of percentage of characteristic."
I feel like my mind is gonna overload from all this information. So much for a gentle style of teaching.
"Alright I understand"
"Then lets get practising I want you to go through every item I had laid out for you devouring each and then remaking them. You will do this every day until they are perfect.
Begin"
Let the training begin it seems.
Next time I see that lanky goblins I'm gonna shit him out into a fucking pot.
