Ethan slammed the door to the orphanage shut. His mind was plagued with painful emotions that he couldn't control. His hand still ached from the fight he had with Reggie, and his eye felt like it had been set on fire.
"Man, screw her!" Ethan yelled at no one; in particular, his voice echoed through the quite neighbourhood. He had enough of that woman, she absolutely disgusted him.
"Shut the hell up, kid!" A voice bellowed above Ethan, clearly frustrated at Ethan's tantrum. Ethan gazed up at the apartment complex next to the orphanage and noticed a balding middle-aged man staring at him. His eyes seemed exhausted, like he'd woken up abruptly from his slumber.
"Nobody cares about your problems; I'm trynna sleep here."
"Why should I care about your problems, then?"
"You know what, kid. I don't want to argue with you, okay? I got work tomorrow, so could you let me sleep?"
"Sorry, I just got into an argument."
The man looked at Ethan sympathetically, gave him a thumbs up, and told him everything would be okay. Ethan smiled at the man, apologising again for waking him up, and with renewed vigour, he exited the orphanage gates and out into the streets.
Ethan then walked through the neighbourhood on his way to his late father's lab. He needed to make was it hadn't been broken into by robbers or looters.
