The weight of everything that had happened pressed down on my shoulders like an anchor, dragging me into a pit I didn't know how to escape. Emily was gone. She had been the threat we had been trying to stop for so long, but it didn't feel like a victory. Not with the curse still inside me. Not when I could feel it clawing at the edges of my mind, whispering in a language only I could hear.
I glanced over at Aimee as we stood in the center of the pack house, the remnants of the tension still crackling in the air. The pack had dispersed, leaving us standing alone. I could feel the lingering stares from a few of the pack members, their unspoken questions hanging in the room like a heavy cloud. They wanted to know if this was really over. I couldn't blame them. I wanted to know the same thing.
But it wasn't. Not even close.
