Chereads / Wandering Dead Roads / Chapter 4 - 4

Chapter 4 - 4

Unbarricading the door and heading down the stairs I rolled my compacted cannon across the floor, the spider turret unraveling as it rolled. Once fully unraveled, I stepped out of the stairwell behind it and gave it one command. Kill. And kill it did, the turret blew crippling or lethal holes through the undead that entered its sightline. Swinging my claymore at any that actually survive the undead creatures burn up with each swing, Winston floating above the others as they kill stray undead and gather supplies. Although while clearing the floor I noticed something due to the spores in the air, there was something ALIVE on this floor. Following the spores as they formed a dense trail in the air, I stopped in front of a vent.

Crouching in front of the vent as a Lurker, that would've gone flying over my head, was met with a cannon shot to the face. Most of its body exploded as the shot went through it after hitting its face and went out its ass. Opening the vent, I reached in and pulled out a Mastiff puppy that was trying to gnaw on my hand through my glove. Huh was this irony of some sort? Because the most basic Iron Defender and companion is based off of or is a Mastiff. Also why was a puppy in the Goddamn vents? Did someone stuff it in the vents?

Looking at the little shit trying to eat my hand still I held them up to check their gender. It has all the makings of a female, so its female, fuck anything else some of the weird people I've met would say. I'm with the damned Gods on this one, if it has a pussy its female, if it has a dick its male. Simple and effective even if the gods use that logic to distinguish between what hole they want to fuck.

"Do not resist, you are being saved."

The puppy did not care, she was determined to eat my hand. Shrugging I carried the puppy back towards the group of humans and two constructs, poking her nose in the process.

"I have found a survivor. Her name is now Stewwy because she's stewing in aggression."

The four looked at me with disbelief, although Angel smiled at the name and reasoning for some reason.

"Reminds me of a friend's dog, he was called Rocks because he liked collecting rocks as a puppy."

"Better than Sausage because your mother tried to turn a dog into sausage… she even liked the name…"

Hearing Bunko's mutter I just grinned as Angel pats her on the back with a shit eating grin. The hacker glaring at us both for enjoying her moment of misery. After calming down the puppy and securing her in my duster, we got some food from the restaurant that was on the same floor we had just cleared. Once everyone was both fed and hydrated enough we called the elevator to our floor. As soon as the doors opened, multiple Eldritch blasts tore through the undead in it. A Bull in front of the rest was the first to be torn to shreds by numerous Eldritch Blasts going off like an automatic rifle firing squad between me, Winston, and my cannon. It did dent the elevator some but the bodies that were turned into mostly paste absorbed most of the blasts.

Stepping into the elevator with everyone, my cannon pressing its body into the elevator's roof as we all packed in. Pressing the ground floor button the doors closed and we started our descent down, nerves fraying as we realized everything undead in the building can likely hear the elevator moving. So we wouldn't have much time to leave once the elevator doors opened since yeah we may of fucked ourselves using it.

"Well who's ready for a contained swarm?"

"This shit is worse than the training I had to do to become a firefighter…"

"Look at this way, at least you'll live longer than Bunko."

"Hey! He'd out last Angel before me Arnette!"

"Says the one that barely even runs when they're about to die."

"She's got you there Bunko, I at least run."

"Why are you ganging up on me?! Why not Kaiser?!"

"Dude can just avoid the undead at moments notice."

"He's got magic that can blast the big swarms the fuck up."

"He actually runs at a restrained pace to not lose us. With his "movement speed" bullshit he can cover distance better than any of us by just walking."

"I'm a lazy person Bunko, but even I can be more active than you. I mean in the few weeks when was the last time you actually worked out to avoid dying? Because our big boy has done more squats and push ups than you've gotten out of a chair while trying to get wifi."

"I've been making gun drones! That's more important than working out!"

"Bullshit!" x3

"You all suck… but I like you assholes."

We descended into silence after our attempt to calm down, everyone checking their weapons. Though I unsummoned my pact weapon and put on my palm pistol rigging. The firearms clicked empty with a test before I rigged up the feeders. The next few minutes were a blur as we fought undead. Undead that came pouring down from the upper floors, and the ones coming up from the underground garage.

I leveled up TWICE as we virtually cleaned the entire building, bodies and blood strewn everywhere. While everyone was getting over hyperventilating or dry heaving from the madness. I checked my character sheet more closely given I had automatically locked my choices in while fighting. But I also remember my patron… giving extra knowledge for how many times I kept everyone from dying.

[Dimension Door 4%... 65%... 100%... Amendment added. Any Dimensions you've previously visited or know well enough can now be accessed. You can travel anywhere within sight, or that you've previously been to. Cannot return you to a dimension you've expired in. Traveling across multiple dimensions at once requires a Dimension Gate (Dimension Door+Teleport Circle) that will allow one time use before its destruction.]

My sheet was getting quite long… so while it was still up I started turning it into a book essentially. The three classes being pages two, three, and four while everything else was page one. The thing regarding Dimension Door was actually extremely logical, it's a door of dimensions it should naturally be able to do those things. The death part, however, was either from my patron or HIM. Only they knew I was going to travel worlds until I met Kratos once more. Looking at everyone else then outside towards a grounded, blood covered, news helicopter. I clapped my hands together getting everyone's attention while I started to make a door in front of me.

Seeing the helicopter on the other side of it, no one needed prompting; they scurried through the door after me. Cleaning the helicopter enough of the guts, and rotting corpses, we got aboard. I and Tashaun took the pilot seats, the helicopter was still functional and full on gas. Starting the engine got the blades to slowly rotate and pick up speed. While I didn't have knowledge on how to fly, overlapping Find Vehicle onto the helicopter taught me what I needed. The helicopter also took on a sleeker pitch black look with the news logo becoming blood red.

Before any undead could get up to us or onboard, save for those on the floor below that came up and got shot up, we started ascending. Tashaun had only ever flown a helicopter once for training was something I remembered him mentioning. It was why I used the Dimension Door spell to get to the helicopter, it was a better alternative compared to the subway. Which is more likely to be packed with zombies due to panic, outbreaks, and failed evacuations than say the air. If they were packed like that then the planned train escape was likely to end up with derailment.

Do I "feel" bad for the men on the train? No. They should know what to do and how to survive. After all they're traversing the train tracks which could potentially have undead clogging the path. However, just because of one good fact doesn't mean I'd risk it for a slim chance. Passing over a majority of New York through the air, we saw just how absolutely fucked it all was. I could only whistle as a good portion of the city was burning, collapsed, or standing strong. Looking at my traveling companions I decided to let them know something that they nor anyone could change.

"I shall be soon beginning to work on a way to travel far away, however, should I die before then it is of no consequence as that just speeds up my departure. While I could stay and help stem or cull the undead, it wouldn't be in my best interest long term. So in one year I will depart, death would only speed that up. Locking me up would not hinder my departure either, it's either a peaceful departure or a bloody one."

Everyone stopped whatever conversation they were having then. Angel spoke first with a grim laugh.

"I think I understand. Leaving would certainly be the better choice, Kaiser. Certainly better instead of being a slave if anyone could get their hands on you, or say fuck it and destroy everything just to kill you."

"Angel has a point… get that look off your face Bunko. He's making a good call for his sake and everyone else's."

"Arnette, he could help fucking stop the apocalypse! Yet you and Angel are agreeing with him just leaving?! With his bullshit powers he could force everyone to leave him the hell alone! Don't even say I don't know what could happen, I know that if anyone couldn't force him to kneel that they'd bomb his location regardless of casualties. Yet instead of just forcing everyone to leave him alone he's just going to fuck off? That's insane!"

"Bunko… it's his choice and like Arnette and Angel have said it's a good choice. Sure his magic mumbo-jumbo could help end everything, sure he could force everyone to leave him be. But it wouldn't work long or at all. Heh it's funny you like to say you're a genius hacker, but you didn't pay much attention did you? He said peacefully or bloody, Bunko. That means with him alive or with him dead after taking as many people with him as possible. Ain't gotta be a hoodrat to understand that. Best to let him walk away instead of dying like a bitch for barking up the wrong tree. Plus he's a friend, gotta support the rare few we still have."

Humming in thought I grabbed a desert eagle I took from a zombified soldier out of my bag. Without looking at the gun I did something stupid, because I'm a dumbass for stupid reasons. The firearm turned into golden light, and I shoved that light into Tashaun's chest while my arm practically exploded. Lesser Restoration and Mending being the only reason why I still even had it, after forcibly creating a multi-infused soul bound weapon. Though several of my organs weren't spared, my heart being one of them. Healing everything internally after they all but exploded felt like I was BURNING up from the inside.

"Just think of the gun."

That was all I said while closing my eyes, focusing on the magic in my veins and continuing to fix up smaller issues. The Fiendish overlapping summoned vehicle adjusting its flight to my thoughts at random from feedback through our connection. I could hear Tashaun and the others discussing the gun I had modified. I could hear the surprised screams and smug laugh of Tashaun when he likely summoned the gun at will. He should also instinctively know what it can do, but also that now it's forever tied to him.

This is going to be a long year…
