Chapter 14 - Going out of town and item box

[scene : Mark, Clarissa and Colt are on the bed in Mark and Clarissa's room, Mark and Clarissa are on the sides, Colt is in the middle]

Clarissa [holding Colt tightly, with teary eyes] : "My boy has grown so fast."

Here we go.

Mark [putting his arm around Clarissa's shoulder] : "He has alright *pulls Colt closer* We're proud of you, son."

Clarissa : "I don't want my little boy to leave."

Yup.. typical response.

Mark : "He has to dear."

Clarissa : "No, who'll take care of his food? How will he sleep away from me?"

This is getting awkward fast.

Colt [trying to hide his boredom] : "I can take care of myself mom."

Clarissa : "What if something happens? What if you get hurt? What if-"

Mark [trying to calm her down] : "Alexander will take good care of him, don't worry. *to Colt* We didn't know you could talk like that."

Colt : "Like what?"

Mark : "Like you did.. all formal like that."

Colt [maintaining an innocent tone] : "We learned it at school."

[Internal sigh]

Good thing I came up with that on the fly, luckily, he has no reason to go check.

Mark : "They didn't teach that back on my days... guess things have changed."

Ooooh, that was close.

Colt [yawning, trying to get out of their hold] : "I'm going to sleep."

*Clarissa tightens her grip.*

Clarissa : "No, we're all sleeping together tonight."

WHAT ??!

Mark : "Good idea, that way, we can spend more time with Colt before he leaves."

Come on..

*Clarissa makes Colt lie, gently tapping his chest*

Clarissa : "Sleep well, my little boy."

I'm not getting out of this one am I?

[The view slowly shifts to panoramic, backing away from the three, showing Mark and Clarissa's smiling faces and Colt's blank look waiting for all this to be over]

*The next day*

[scene : Colt, Mark and Clarissa are at the door, Mark putting his arm around Clarissa's shoulder]

Mark : "Take care son."

Colt : "I will."

Colt [with excitement and happiness] : "Bye, Mom, Dad, I'm heading out."

*Walks a few steps away, the excitement fades from his face*

Time to start a new phase. They finally let me go.. Who knew Clarissa was so dramatic?

Wait.. I did.. but now, it's time for me to take the next step to achieving my goal..

A life without misery, without tyranny, and certainly without anyone telling me what to do.

Besides, I already took from them more than I needed… I no longer want to burden them. Let them enjoy their lives a little.

[scene : Colt reaches the gate of the town, finds Alexander standing next to a wagon with some people]

*Alexander sees Colt*

Alexander : "You're here, great, now we can go."

One of the two men : "Who's the kid?"

Alexander : "Starting today, my apprentice."

Colt : "I'm Colt, it's very nice to meet all of you."

The man [bulky, Amber eyes, blonde hair, has a great sword on his hip] : "I'm Theo, the swordsman, rest assured, I'll keep you safe."

The other man [green eyes, green hair, a bow on his back]: "I'm Owen, the archer."

I noticed.

The woman [Violet hair, blue eyes] : "I'm Abbie, the mage of this team."

A mage without a staff ?! And she's not wearing the Witch's hat either.. what's with this world ??!

Then again, I've seen it before, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised..

Alexander : "Now that the introductions are done.. we should go."

A wagon .. this confirms my suspicion: none of these people can use float.

[scene : The wagon is on the road, drawn by two horses, Alexander is driving and Colt sits beside him]

Colt: "Sir Alexander, how do merchants get and sell items?"

Alexander: "Oh, right, you wouldn't know. Your dad isn't in the business. Basically, we find stuff to sell. Either we buy it and sell it somewhere else for a profit, or we find someone who wants it and take a cut. Same goes for the paperwork. You can do it yourself or pay someone to do it. And hey, don't worry about calling me 'sir'. Just be casual, unless we're around others or making deals."

Colt: "Understood. By the way, where are your wares?"

Alexander: "In my item box."

Knew it!!

*Again we only hear the last part of the incantation*

Alexander: "…let this dimension be a safe place to store my treasures, item box!"

*A circle opens, he puts his hand inside and takes out a ring with a diamond.*

Alexander: "See, this is item box and now that you know the incantation you can use it too."

Is that a friggin' diamond?! If my suspicion is correct then Alexander's a big deal. Also, there are other people here dude, aren't you worried they'll spill the beans later?

Colt: "Ah, and what's that?"

Alexander: "That, my apprentice, is a diamond, they're rare so they sell for a lot… this little diamond easily sells for five gold coins."

[Colt internally laughs hysterically]

[Internal evil grin]

Ah, humans, same old, same old.

Little do these people know that the difference between diamond and charcoal is the crystalline structure, not that the knowledge made any difference, diamonds still sold for a lot back on Earth, and artificial diamonds sold for less because the machines couldn't change all the crystalline structures from this

 [shows charcoal hexagonal structures]

to this .

[shows diamond crystalline structure]

But that's not the case with magic… my get very rich very fast scheme is a go.

It's better to wait to earn his trust first, but let's plant a seed here.

Colt [impressed]: "Whoa, you're awesome, Alexander."

Colt [confused]: "But where are you selling it? Is there someone rich enough to buy it?"

Alexander [laughing]: "Most nobles are rich enough to buy many, so the royal capital is where to sell it… it'll be our fifth stop so, don't worry about it now."

Colt [whispering and glancing at the adventurers]: "Are you sure you should be saying all that here?"

Alexander [smiling]: "Relax, they're professionals, you don't need to worry about it."

Colt: "Oh, okay, how did you get this ring then?"

Alexander [winks]: "Lesson one: 'A merchant never reveals his sources.'"

Seed sown successfully… and I'll reap it soon enough.
