I feel my eyebrows furrow.
-Repeat what you said?, I asked him with furrowed eyebrows
-My brother is going to marry your sister, he repeated to me, sighing.
I hear whispers coming from everywhere.
-Let's talk outside, I said to him
I place my tray on the table.
-Girls, we'll talk about it later
Lorenzo, my lifelong sworn enemy, and I decide to chat outside, in the immense expanse of greenery that surrounds our university.
-I hope it's not a joke in bad taste, I said to him irritated
He takes out a stack of photos and hands them to me. I look at them with an annoyed look.
-There you go, now you know it's not a joke, he said to me, rolling his eyes to the sky.
-There is no way you are part of my family!, I exclaimed furiously
-Great, we're on the same wavelength, he said, letting out a sigh of relief, Now what do we do?
-We'll meet at Rhea's this evening, I told her through gritted teeth.
-Tonight I can't, he said. Family dinner.
-So tomorrow evening at Rhea's, I added
-And where does she live? he asks
-Good luck finding the address, I replied.
-I thought we were having a truce!, he said to me
-Hmm let me think, I replied.
-If there is no truce, then don't count on me to help you, he added in a determined tone.
-Once this story is over, no more truce, I replied.
We each go our separate ways. I decide to join my two friends in the canteen to tell them in detail what has just happened. As we enter, I easily spot them at our usual table.
-You will never believe what just happened, I told them, sitting down in front of her
They look at me with wide eyes, curious to know what happens next.
-Lorenzo just told me that his brother is going to marry my sister!, I exclaimed furiously
They exchange incredulous looks.
-What?!, exclaims Nyx just as furious
-But how come?!, exclaims Rhea
I explain to them everything Lorenzo told me, detailing our conversation and the photos he showed me. They listen attentively, asking questions and reacting to each new piece of information. Shock and disbelief mix with worry on their faces, as we together try to understand what this situation will mean for us.
As I finish explaining the whole story, I hear a burst of laughter behind me. I turn around and see a girl sitting at a nearby table, openly laughing at what I just said. His laughter echoes in the canteen and attracts the attention of all the students around us.
-Do you find that funny?!, I asked him
My blood only makes one circuit. I grab my glass of water and throw the contents in his face. Suddenly there is silence in the canteen, everyone's eyes are on us.
Damn I should have thrown my tray in his face, I thought coldly
-Does that always make you laugh?, I said to him dryly.
She stands frozen for a moment, water dripping down her face, before abruptly standing up, furious and without a trace of fear.
-You're completely crazy! she exclaims, challenging me with her gaze.
My two friends also get up angry. I ignore them, still staring at the girl angrily. Contrary to what I thought, she's not intimidated at all.
-What are you going to do now? Throw me another glass of water? she continues provocatively.
I hear sighs of fear being heard around me. Murmurs rise from all sides, and a few people start whispering, pointing at me.
— She's the new girl who threw her glass of water in his face.
A wave of malevolence washes over me, and I stare at her with a clear intention of making her regret her insolence.
Amused by his audacity, I smiled.
-You are really brave... or stupid, I said in an icy voice. But let me tell you one thing: I'm going to make your life hell.
She crosses her arms, feigning indifference, but I can see a flicker of worry in her eyes.
-And for all those who dare to help you, I promise that they will pay dearly, I added, raising my voice so that everyone could hear.
A murmur of fear and dismay runs through the canteen.
-Rhea pass me your glass of water, I said to her suddenly
Rhea passes me her glass of water.
-You asked me what I was planning to do, right?
-...
I throw another glass of water in his face.
I have a feeling this year will be particularly fun, I thought, smirking.
