Chapter 16 - Piece of paper

Night was slowly settling in, the warmth of the campfire enveloping us in its comforting glow. We all sat in a circle, exchanging stories and laughter to forget, if only for a moment, the precarious situation in which we found ourselves. The constant murmur of the forest had become a familiar, almost soothing background sound.

Suddenly something catches my eye. A piece of paper, white and slightly crumpled, lay near my feet. Intrigued, I discreetly picked it up, wondering how it had gotten there. I opened it slowly, the paper crunching slightly between my fingers.

The words written on it were like a cold shower: **"Don't let them find you Miroy.

I remain frozen, my mind allows me to understand the meaning of this message. Why was my first name written on this thin piece of paper? And above all, who should not have found me? My heart beat faster as the implications of that note made their way through my mind.

Without attracting attention, I slipped the piece of paper into my pocket, determined to keep this discovery to myself for now. I needed time to think, to understand what this meant and how it could affect our group.

The rest of the evening passed without incident, but I couldn't help but glance around nervously, looking for clues or signs of danger. The ever-vigilant guide didn't seem to notice anything unusual, but I knew it was essential to stay on my guard.

As the others prepared for bed, I moved slightly away from the camp to sit alone, the mysterious message burning in my pocket. I reread it by the light of my flashlight, forcing myself to decipher each word, each letter, in the hope of finding a hidden meaning.

"Don't let them find you." Who were they? Was it a threat? A warning ?

Lost in my thoughts, I did not immediately notice Marc's presence at my side. He sat silently, watching my troubled expression.

-Which thing is bothering you?, he demanded softly.

I take a deep breath, weighing my words. "I found this," I finally said, taking out the piece of paper and showing it to him.

Marc frowned as he read the message.

-That's strange. Why is your first name written there?

-I have no idea, I replied. "But if this message is serious, it could mean I might be in danger."

We spend a moment in silence, each absorbed in their thoughts. Finally, Marc spoke. "No, maybe someone is also called Miroy. But as a precaution we should talk to the guide. He might know something we don't."

-Not yet, I replied. "I prefer to observe first, try to understand for myself. We don't know who we can trust here."

Marc nodded, respecting my decision.

-Very good. But be careful. If you feel something is wrong, tell me immediately.

I promise to do so, grateful for his support. We then return to camp, each lost in thought. While the others slept peacefully, I stayed awake a little longer, the piece of paper hidden under my pillow.

The night progressed slowly, and despite the exhaustion, I knew sleeping would be difficult. The warning in the letter echoed in my mind, reminding me that even in this beautiful place, danger could lurk in every shadow.

Tomorrow would be another day, full of new challenges and mysteries. But for now, I must remain vigilant, ready to protect our group from the unseen threats that may be lurking in the forest of planet RKA.
