GAME TIME
★ ★ ★ ★ ★
2:00PM
It was game time! Jenny and Uriel were the dynamic duo, excelling in games like this. My stepbrother Jayden was also there, and they were all having a blast playing the game, which had been going on for an hour. To be honest, I found it a bit dull, but they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Just then, I received a message from Derick, who was sitting right across from me. When I looked up, he caught my eye and winked at me. My heart skipped a beat as I read the message:
DERICK: "Don't you think we look good together?"
SILVIA: "Wait, what? Why do you think that?"
DERICK: "Just asking because of our picture from a while back when we were dancing. Jenny posted it on Instagram, and it's become a hot topic."
SILVIA: "Oh!"
"I was still frustrated with myself for responding so briefly to Derick's previous message. To distract myself, I opened Instagram and navigated to Jenny's page and our group chat account. That's when I saw it - a flurry of comments and messages, all buzzing with excitement. The same comments from earlier, when we were dancing, caught my attention: 'You will make a great couple,' 'Are you guys dating?' 'You look cute together.'
But one comment in particular stood out, and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance because of who made it - Julie. Her comment read: 'Just date already.'
Just then, Derick messaged me again:
DERICK: 'By the way, you're a great dancer. Are you taking practice?'
SILVIA: 'No, I'm just my own teacher, and you're also a good dancer.'
DERICK: 'Thanks! I love the way you move your legs. I thought you didn't know how to tango, but I wish to dance with you again.'
SILVIA: 'Thanks a lot.'
DERICK: 'But Jenny is a bad dancer; don't tell her, or she'll kill me!'
SILVIA: 'Derick, stop it! She's your sister!'
DERICK: 'Yes, she is, but her bloodline...'
DERICK: "Yes, she is, but her bloodline of dancing has faded; she's a terrible dancer."
SILVIA: "Derick, stop it!"
DERICK: "Can I ask you for a favor?"
SILVIA: "Why not? Go on."
DERICK: "Can I have Anissa's number?"
SILVIA: "No, I don't have her number." (thinking) "Idiot."
Then, I gave him a terrible stare before sending him Anissa's number and dropping my phone. Messages kept coming in; I was angry and jealous. Eventually, I decided to check the messages, and they were all from Derick:
DERICK: "Thanks."
DERICK: "Why aren't you replying to me?"
DERICK: "Why are you angry? Tell me."
DERICK: "Please just reply to me."
SILVIA: "What! I've given you her number, so what more do you want from me?"
DERICK: "Wait, are you jealous?"
Then, I gave him a disgusting look as he winked at me. He's so cute; I couldn't stay mad at him. His smile and dimples are something to die for...
SILVIA: "No, why would I be jealous? I don't even like you."
DERICK: "But I like you."
SILVIA: "What?!"
Derick: "Just kidding, I just like you as a friend."
Silvia: "Yeah, it would have been weird if you liked me."
Derick: "Yeah."
I wasn't happy, feeling a pang of regret and sadness. But when I looked at Derick's face, it told a different story - like he genuinely liked me. Maybe it was just my imagination.
Then, another message from Derick and Jenny popped up. I was scared, thinking I was in trouble.
Derick: "What are you thinking about? Are you thinking about me?"
Jenny: "Silvia, who are you chatting with? You're twisting your hair and biting your lips. Is it Chad?"
Silvia to Jenny: "I'm not twisting my hair or biting my lip, and it's not Chad - it's Xander."
Jenny: "Where did he say he is? Is he on his way here?"
Silvia to Jenny: "He's on his way."
Jenny: "Okay."
Silvia to Derick: "Why would I be thinking about you? You're just my best friend's twin brother."
Derick: "Silvia, I just feel like I'm in love."
I was shocked that Derick Daniel was sharing his feelings with me!
I was curious to know who Derick is love with
Silvia: "With who?"
But before Derick could reply, Xander walked in with his girlfriend Amber Cornell. Amber was a former member of SQUADJAX, but she had left our school after an incident. They both entered, and now it seemed like another family tradition was about to unfolds.
When I was in 7th grade at Albert Einstein School, I wanted to be close friends with Jenny. Jenny and Amber were already close friends, but everything changed when my stepdad invited Mr. Daniels, the mayor of Yorkville, over for a visit. Mr. Daniels is Jenny and Derick's dad, and when he came over, he brought Jenny and Derick with him.
At first, Jenny didn't talk to me much until my mom suggested I show Jenny and Derick my room. When we went upstairs, I shared my makeup kit and photo book of my favorite celebrity with them, and we discovered we had a lot in common. Meanwhile, Derick was sneaking a peek at my comics, and when I asked him to put them back, he just ran downstairs with them! I didn't chase after him, and now I realize it's because I had a crush on him.
After that night, Jenny and I really bonded, and when we got to school, we started walking to class together. Amber was always with us, but I didn't realize she was jealous. Then, after a year, We were known as the trios, and I was happy to be part of a close-knit group. But one day, something unfortunate happened. Jenny had a severe asthma attack, and we couldn't find her inhaler. She almost died that day, and I was terrified.
But something was off. When Jenny had her attack, I realized I had her inhaler in my bag, but when I went to get it, it was missing. We were all in a panic.
When Jenny recovered, she stopped talking to me for a week. On the second week, we discovered the shocking truth. Amber confessed that she had caused Jenny's asthma attack and stolen her inhaler out of jealousy. She wanted to separate us because she felt like Jenny was less talkative and dull without her, and she didn't want to lose her best friend.
Jenny was furious with Amber, and so was I. But I eventually convinced Jenny to forgive Amber, and she did. However, the incident became a hot gossip in school, with some people even saying that Amber had tried to kill Jenny!
After the incident, people started avoiding Amber, and she became a social outcast. She stopped coming to school for a week, and when we went to check on her, she revealed that she had already transferred to another school and was going to start fresh elsewhere.
We had forgiven Amber and still kept in touch with her. Every weekend, we would go out and enjoy ourselves together. Jenny was now more comfortable around Amber, and it was actually Jenny who introduced Xander to Amber! Who would have thought that Jenny would play matchmaker?
