Zeno regained consciousness but took his time to move. He quietly assessed his situation; as expected, his wrists were chained behind him, and his ankles were also bound.
Contrary to what he had anticipated, he wasn't sitting in a chair. Instead, he was lying on a very cold floor.
His back ached, making him wonder how long he had been in that uncomfortable position.
He felt no reflection in his closed lids, which told him that he was either in a poorly dimmed-lighted room or a very dark room; he didn't hear anyone either, asking him to believe he was either alone or was quietly being watched.
He decided to open his eyes and that's when he saw that the room was truly dark, but the door was opened, leading to another room that was properly lighted.
He blinked and tried to focus his vision inside the room but he still didn't find anyone in there.
