Chapter 11 - Shadows of the Past

The battle between Kaidon's humans and Gorthok's orcs began with a fierce clash of steel on steel. Kaidon, the human leader, stood tall, his sword held high as he rallied his troops. "For our homes! For our families!" he shouted, charging forward.

Gorthok, the orc warlord, snarled in response, his massive sword slicing through the air. "Crush them! Destroy their pitiful army!" he bellowed, leading the orc charge.

The two armies met in a frenzy of clashing swords, shields, and arrows. Kaidon's archers rained arrows down on the orcs, while Gorthok's mages unleashed dark magic to scorch the human ranks. The human warriors formed a tight shield wall, trying to hold back the orc tide, but Gorthok's sheer strength began to break through.

Throne, the human archer leader, shot precise arrows at Grimgar, the orc archer leader, trying to take him down. Grimgar retaliated, his arrow whizzing past Throne's ear. Mira, the human mage leader, cast a healing spell on Kethril, the human swordsman leader, who had taken a nasty blow from an orc warrior.

As the battle raged on, Kaidon's shield wall began to falter. Gorthok's warriors pushed forward, their swords and axes rising and falling in deadly arcs. Kaidon knew he had to act fast to turn the tide. He raised his sword, ready to give the order to fall back and regroup. But then, he saw an opportunity. Gorthok's warriors had pushed too far forward, leaving their archers and mages exposed. Kaidon seized the moment, shouting, "Now! Attack their weak point!"

Throne's archers and Mira's mages unleashed a barrage of arrows and spells, targeting the orc archers and mages. Grimgar and Krogar, the orc leaders, tried to rally their troops, but the human counterattack was too strong. The orc archers and mages began to fall, their numbers dwindling rapidly.

Gorthok's face twisted in rage as he saw his advantage slipping away. He charged forward, his massive sword slicing through the human ranks. But Kaidon was ready for him. With a swift strike, Kaidon knocked Gorthok's sword aside and struck back, their blades clashing in a shower of sparks.

The two leaders fought fiercely, their swords ringing out as they exchanged blow after blow. But Kaidon's armor was dented and cracked, his strength beginning to wane. Gorthok sensed victory and pressed his attack, his sword raised for the killing blow.

Just as all seemed lost, Kethril, the human swordsman leader, leapt forward, his sword flashing in the sunlight. He struck Gorthok's sword aside and landed a critical hit, sending the orc warlord stumbling back. Kaidon took advantage of the reprieve, striking Gorthok down with a final, mighty blow.

The orc army wavered, their leader fallen. Kaidon's humans surged forward, taking advantage of the momentary confusion. The orcs began to flee, their army routed. Kaidon's humans cheered, their victory complete.

As the dust settled, Kaidon stood victorious, his sword still trembling with the force of his final blow. He looked down at Gorthok's fallen form, a mix of emotions on his face. "It's over," he said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "The war is finally over."

But as he approached Gorthok's body, he noticed something strange. Gorthok's eyes flickered open, and he let out a weak gasp. "No...it can't be..." he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Before Kaidon could react, a dark shadow enveloped Gorthok's body. The orc warlord let out a blood-curdling scream as he was consumed by the darkness. When the shadow dissipated, Gorthok was gone.

Kaidon and his soldiers were left staring at the empty space in confusion. "What just happened?" Throne asked, his voice laced with concern.

Kaidon shook his head. "I don't know, but I don't like it. It's as if...he was taken by some dark force."

The humans exchanged uneasy glances. They had never seen anything like this before. The war was supposed to be over, but now it seemed like a new, sinister chapter had begun.

As they stood there, trying to make sense of the strange events, a chill ran down their spines. They knew that they had to be vigilant, for in the world of war, anything could happen, and the shadows were always full of secrets.

"Mira! Gather everyone we are leaving." Kaidon commanded.

As Kaidon and his soldiers returned to the city of Eldrador, they were greeted with a mixture of relief and concern. Amir called on a meeting immediately Kaidon and the rest reached. "Kaidon, we need to talk," he said,

Amir explained that the old Orc king, was a powerful and vengeful leader who had been defeated by the former emperor. The king had been consumed by his own dark and malevolent force, for him to hide till the fall of the emperor. This power allowed him to manipulate darkness and shadows, making him a formidable foe.

Kaidon listened intently, his mind racing with the implications. He realized that the shadow that had consumed Gorthok was likely a manifestation of the kings power. Amir continued, explaining that king sought revenge against the former emperor and the sword that Kaidon now wielded.

Kaidon's grip on the sword tightened as he understood the gravity of the situation. He turned to Thorold, and asked if he knew anything about the old king. Thorold's expression turned thoughtful, and he began to recount tales of the king cruelty and brutality.

Thorold explained that Malakar's power was not just limited to manipulation of shadows, but also extended to dark magic and deception. He was a master of spreading fear and discord, and his very presence seemed to draw the light out of the world.

Kaidon's determination grew as he listened to Thorold's words. He knew that he had to confront Malakar and put an end to his evil plans. The safety of Eldrador and its people depended on it.

Amir nodded in agreement, his eyes serious. "We need to gather our strength and prepare for the battle ahead. The orc king will not be easy to defeat, but with our combined forces and determination, I believe we can triumph."

Kaidon nodded, his mind set on the challenge ahead. He knew that the road to victory would be fraught with danger, but he was ready to face whatever lay ahead. The fate of Eldrador and its people was in his hands, and he would not falter.

Arin who had been listening like the rest of the leaders. Stepped forward and brought something important to light. "Can we talk about the fact that orcs don't normally know how to use magic. Apart from the orc king these orcs have powerful weapons. We need to find out who is helping them."

=====

Far away in the deepest part of the forest a ruined castle comes to view. Multiple injured orcs are seen and a small number of orc healer are treating their wounds. In side the castle in the throne room an orc is seen siting on a semi-destroyed throne. Beside it another orc is seen injured. A healer orc Tring to heal its wounds.

"Thank you for saving me grandfather. I am sorry I disappointed you in that battle." Gorthok said with a low tone.

"Do not be disturbed. The goal was to bring me back." The old Orc king said.

Before Gorthok could say anything, four orcs came crushing through the door. Ice spears in the middle of their chest.

Walking through the door was an angry Xandros. In his hands were wipes made out of water.

"We had a deal you little shit!" Xandros shouted.

Gorthok stood on his foot trying to walk but the orc king stop him.

"The deal was for you to destroy the river workshop. I would then have a solution making me the rightful king. And I would give you all the resources plus teach your orcs magic." Xandros said reviling his plan.

"It was but he didn't handle our end of the deal. For that we apologize." Xandros was shocked with the attitude of the old king and lowered his hands.

"You are lucky you are still useful to me." Xandros said as he left the room and castle.

"How long till we get insulted by that human." Gorthok exclamated as he sat down and allowed the healer to do it's job.

"Currently, I am a level 2 beast and I haven't even reached the peak of that level yet. I was a mighty level 4 beast in the past. The only one that was my match was that Emperor and the mysterious serpent. Once I get to my peak he will be of no use." The king said with a laugh.

In the dark corner a hooded figure stood in the shadows. The figure seconds later vanish.

Xandros sits in his carriage looking outside and looking annoyed. The hood figure appears Infront of him and nods before disappearing again. Xandros smiles now knowing the true intentions of the orc king.
