"Have a good day at school! Love you!"
That was the last thing my dad said to me.
I had just gotten off of school on an average april day, walking my way through the bitter cold when I got the message.
"He's here."
It came from an unknown number, which is weird because I've never gottten even so much as a wrong number text since getting this number years ago. So I just decided to keep it simple, "Who's here?" I replied.
"Your father."
'Strange, my father should be at home,' I thought to myself, 'Well, probably a prank text, I'll see him in a bit.'
I round the corner to my street and just as I'm nearing my house my neighbor stops me.
"Matt, I know it must be hard living on your own.. seeing as your mother hasnt been involved for years. If you ever need anything just remember we're all here for you. I know you dont like accepting help but..." She looks at me remorsefully.
"What do you mean? I live with my dad?" I question.
She looks at me strangely before asking, "Are you feeling alright sweety? The rain must have gotten you sick.. Your dad has been gone for years?"
"What? No, no, he's in there right now. He's making dinner I bet." I stumble on my words there at the shock of my neighbor somehow not knowing that my father owns this house.
I unlock the door and step in. All the lights are off save for the one in the living room.
"Dad?!" I call out for him, "Why are all the lights of- holy shit"
Sitting on the couch before me is my seriously pissed off mother.
"Matt, we have to talk. Its about your father."
