Chapter 1 - Chained: Prologue

Ariya

I like to read, in fact, that's the only liberty I have in this room, my world. I've never ventured outside of here because the strange man that comes in to 'assess' me tells me that it's dangerous. I feel this itch in the back of my brain however, and I can't help but feel like I'm losing myself to these white walls. These walls in which light reflects, and it's not very easy on the eyes. The only colorful thing in here are two things; the dried blood on the floor from my daily combat training, and my skin, which contrasts greatly to the bright white walls.

I sit here waiting; not really for anything specific, but just anything. The person that keeps me in here calls me Ariya, but I don't exactly know what to call him. This strange man comes in daily, and his face makes me feel somewhat unsettled. He has eyes like a husky, which I've seen in my picture books, and he has pale white skin like a ghost- which in my opinion looks almost unhealthy. This year, I'm turning twenty-five years old, which makes it about fifteen years since I've been locked up in this room, which also makes about fifteen years of silence, boredom, and agony. I can't even scratch my head when it itches because my hands are cuffed to this bed which is honestly what drives me mad the most.

Suddenly- the door starts rattling- which is weird to me because the man that keeps me in here doesn't usually have a hard time with the locks- and suddenly the door bursts open and there is a different looking man standing there. While my first instinct is to fight, I can't help but stare. This man looks like a tower, as he has a tall lean build, with olive skin and black eyes. His hair is black, short and curly, which goes well with his square jaw and stubble; he also has a distinct scar stretching from his temple to his eyelid. Those moments in awe end when I notice his blood- stained clothes, and bodies laying behind him. I can't help but think that I'm really about to die while chained up like this to a fine looking man, and that's when I noticed him staring at me, and I heard some footsteps behind him. I can hear them speaking a language, which has got to be Italian, but they are speaking so silently that I can't really decipher what they are saying.

The tall man stares at me, and I can feel his gaze, and it feels like he can see right through me. Without taking his gaze off of me, he yells, only what I can assume to be someone's name, because now a new man shows up, and this guy has almost the same build as the first guy, but he's shorter in comparison and has blonde hair. The man with black hair nods towards me and turns around and walks away then the blonde guy starts walking towards me, and that is when I start to panic. I start thrashing in my chains and trying to think of a way to get out of this situation. The blonde man stops in front of my bed, and pulls out a gun, and that is when I feel everything go still, but then he aims down at the chain and shoots it, breaking me free from the bed. And as soon as I realize that I have a free hand, that's when I spring into action. I locate the man's hand and I grab the gun from him, breaking his wrist in the process, and while laying down, I pull him down and lock his head between my legs, and twist and turn until I hear snapping and cracking noises, and his body goes limp, I use the gun to break free from the other restraint, and I sit there, wondering what to do next, and I see that the door is open. I get up and walk to the frame, and I stretch my arm out to feel the air outside the room. It feels refreshing and so I take My first step out.
