Kayden hugged Leon as Leon was a sobbing mess.
"Feeling better?"
"Yeah. This life, we will have a happy ending! And even after we die, I promise you that we will still be together in all our lives!"
"Un."
Kayden smiled dotingly and Leon was once again enchanted by Kayden's handsome face.
"Y-you, don't look at me like that. I can't take it. I can tell my face is burning up in embarrassment."
Kayden chuckles and Leon glowed bright red, matching his hair color.
"Let's see if there is anything else here other than historical carvings."
Leon said as he walked deeper into the cave. Strolling for 20 minutes he noticed a small scroll. It didn't seem like it originated from this world.
"How do I open this up?"
"Maybe drop blood on it? It's either my blood or your blood. Let me go first. I don't want to see a single hair of yours missing."
Kayden pricked his finger with a small sword and squeezed out a droplet of blood. The blood dripped onto the scroll and started glowing. The both of them closed their eyes and when they opened it, the scroll flew out of Leon's hand and into the air. They stood side by side as they watched the scroll unfurl all around them.
"The heck?! It's another historical recording. But of another world. Okay, so it starts with a soul entering a seed? The seed grew into a healthy peach tree. It gained a spirit with wills and thoughts. With no knowledge of the outside world, he was pure and naive. But was picked up by a passing immortal? The peach spirit arrived at the immortal's dwelling and bowed to the immortal. Becoming master and disciple. The peach spirit studies and practices his sword skills. He became stronger until he was evenly matched with his master. A demon spy entered the heavenly realm and saw the peach spirit. The demon was greedy for the peach spirit. The innocent peach spirit was tricked into following the demon out of the heavenly realm. The immortal master came out of seclusion and saw that his peach spirit was missing. He asked around the heavenly realm and couldn't find him. He then found news of his peach spirit. He traveled through the human realm to the demon realm. Searching all over, he found a hint of the peach spirit's soul near a cliff. He flew down and what he found was a dried peach branch. That's the last scene."
"...now it's my turn to ask you. How were you able to understand that so well?"
"I have a hunch that the peach spirit is me. And the soul that traveled the night sky and flew into the peach seed was me. When I had died in this world. I think the carvings on the cave wall is the story of your past lives in this world and this is my story of my life after I died and was reborn in another world. No wonder you couldn't find me all this time."
"So your soul has been traveling through worlds while I had stayed in this world because of my obsession to find you?"
"That sounds right?"
"Then what changed? Why didn't you get reborn in another world after you died?"
"I don't know. I was transferred into a domain with a vast starry night sky and many orbs of light all around me."
'Do you want to know the truth?'
The system formed and appeared in front of Leon and Kayden.
"What type of creature is this?"
'Hello, Kayden. I am an artificial intelligent system. I am a program of data tasked to send Leon to different worlds and gather world energy from various worlds. The goal is for Leon to gain enough power to become immortal.'
"Why is Leon picked to go through this task of yours? I rather have Leon keep being reborn to other worlds without his sad memories of us if it meant having him stay ignorant and safe."
'Will you say the same thing if you have seen his last life in the world before he entered this one?'
"Ahhh! System shut up! Don't tell him!"
'Why? He wants to know so just let him know.'
"B-because I was nobody. I was weak and I don't have many good memories…"
"Leon… Tell me. Confide in me like you used to. Aren't lovers supposed to share and go through hardships together?"
"...Yeah. Okay."
'I'll send you his memories of his last life.'
Kayden nodded and closed his eyes. After a while he looked over at Leon in concern.
"Are you okay? Are you really fine? I'm sorry I couldn't be there in that world with you. Letting you go through that life and maybe many other tragic lives alone."
"I'm fine! I knew I had you to complain to about my life grievances. Heehee, I feel the tension and stress leave me after I saw your concern. I love you, you know that? I'm going to keep saying it."
"I love you too, buttercup."
"Did you take that from the memories of my past world?"
"Yeah, I noticed you looking at a couple's interaction for an extra few seconds and thought you like this nickname."
"I do."
Leon mumbled and looked down with a blushing face.
"Good, I'll keep calling you that."
"Heehee."
Leon and Kayden looked over as the scroll rolled back and faded. They walked back the way they came from and saw that the carvings also disappeared. The two left the cave and went to meet up with the other two. After telling them that they didn't find anything, they started their journey to the next destination.
After searching for 20 years, the party went their separate ways. Kayden and Leon had gotten to trust them enough to tell them the truth. That Kayden was actually the Dark Dragon and the history of the Dark Dragon's first life. Tiriana sobbed at the tragic story when she heard and was happy for the married couple. She gave them both hugs and they would often visit each other. Tiriana and Theo got married in the Elven kingdom and had a pair of mixed raced twins. Kayden and Leon were there at their wedding and when Tiriana gave birth to the babies. Leon and Kayden continued to travel the four lands. Embracing the joy and peaceful life. Near the ending of their life, they settled back down in Kayden's home within the Elven kingdom lands. The two passed away at the same time. With happy smiles on their faces and within each other's embrace.
'Congrats on completing your first world! Would you like to rest or continue to go to the next world?'
"Where's Kayden? I don't see him within the system screen."
'As a reward for completing your first world, here's a little tip about you and your lover. Please check your storage space.'
"Okay…"
Leon noticed a document inside his storage space and sent a mental command to open it. A holographic screen popped up and Leon read it. Leon closed the screen and put away the document with a dark face.
"System!!! You trash! Not only am I going through worlds to strengthen myself and become an immortal. I'm also supposed to find and collect soul pieces of my husband?! And in each world, he won't have his memories of each of our lives we have experienced?! I thought he would be in the game space of my golden finger and I can visit him whenever I need emotional support!"
'Like what you have just read, the one you married and spent your happy life with is only a soul piece. When you succeed in your task and die, the soul piece is collected and sent to the main soul to merge with.'
"What's with the hint note at the bottom?! Complete more worlds to unlock more info?! WTF!!! Instead of telling me things I was supposed to know, you hid important info and then gave it to me afterwards?!"
'What can I do? You're already overpowered with your golden finger so the system can't give you any other rewards.'
Leon took deep breaths to try and calm himself down.
"Alright, let's go. The faster I finish these worlds. The faster I get to meet the whole soul of my husband and we can live freely."
'You don't want to rest?'
"No."
'Alright then. Searching for world…Found world…initiating soul transfer in 3…2…1…0'
