Chapter 24 - A Letter To Myra (Epilogue)

In the dimly lit backroom of Brady's Inn, Myra Hindley sat in a secluded corner, her fingers drumming nervously on a weathered table. The soft glow of the magic lamps cast dancing shadows across the room, creating an eerie atmosphere; some would call it cozy, other would call it sinister. Despite the warmth of the inn, Myra felt cold. Her mine was consumed by thoughts of Lucius, the man who had captured her heart; he had disappeared for days without a word.

As she melancholically gazed into the shifting shadows, a small pool of darkness coalesced into a tangible form before her eyes. Myra's breath caught in her throat as she watched the shadows condensed into a small envelope, which gently floated towards her, landing softly on the table in front of her.

Her heart pounding with excitement, Myra reached out with trembling hands and picked up the envelope, her fingers brushing against the smooth surface. It was from Lucius - the man who had become the focal point of her every waking thought and her every desire.

With eagerness, Myra carefully tore open the envelope, her heart racing. However, before she could read the contents, she let the moment linger, her obsessive thoughts about eventually possessing the object of her desires leaving her stunned by a mix of anticipation and longing, her imagination running wild with thoughts of what the letter might reveal. To her huge disappointment, it was another job.

The letter read:

My Dearest Myra,

Ah, how I hate the thought of leaving you in the dark for so long. I deeply apologize for not coming in person but, sadly, I'm a bit indisposed at the moment. However, I'll take this opportunity to recount the thrilling events that have transpired these days, events that have sadly led me to a bitter defeat. I will entrust you with the details of my predicament because you, my dear, are the only one worthy of my trust, and, as my most important ally, you should know about our enemies.

It all began when I decided to seize your former neighbor, Victoria Kyle, to use as a bargaining chip. The mission was supposed to be simple. I thought I had orchestrated every detail with precision, placed every pawn in its right place.

Alas, my misfortune started the moment I arrived at the building. It appears that Ms. Kyle had a protector, a brutish Outcast wielding a gun – a gun, if you'd believe it! – that proved more challenging than anticipated. His ability made all his shots hit their mark and let him dodge all attacks; alas, he was not prepared for my shadow magic. My barrier was too much for him; plus, even if you can mess with probability, when the probability of getting hit is 100% you will get hit nonetheless. And so, I emerged victorious.

However, before I could finish him, our friend Constantine St. John appeared out of nowhere and started attacking me like a wild anima! I must say, he is quite an unpleasant fellow; bloodthirsty and irrational. As you can infer from this, he wasn't sent to Nyx yet. Adjust the plan accordingly. He has grown a lot and even managed to hurt me, but I managed to beat him…or so I thought.

The Outcasts have interesting abilities. I fought a man who could generate barriers and use space itself as a weapon. He whisked Victoria and the brute away; sadly, I assume they're both safe.

However the most astonishing among them was a green eyed man who fought like an assassin. He was a brilliant warrior. Our duel was a dance of death, each move he made was graceful and equally deadly. I wish we could recruit him. He summoned a scythe made of wind that shattered my barriers! It was a sight to behold really, if you exclude the part where he almost killed me, but he suffered backlash from his own power, which was ratherdisappointing.

However, as I was about to finish him off, St. John, having recovered from our earlier bout with the help of a red-headed midget carrying a warhammer – one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen, really – summoned a surge of purple and black lightning, overwhelming me with its power and almost killing me.

In a desperate moment, I called upon an…ally, who begrudgingly whisked me away from the battlefield, saving me from certain death. Victoria Kyle is lost to us now; we have, after all, violated the accords. Perhaps if I had you by my side the tides would have been turned. But we can always make new plans, together.

Now, my dear Myra, I need you; you must fulfill a request of utmost importance. Contact Elijah Barnett at the Magic Association building using the token I keep in the safe, and inform him of the nature of your mission regarding our little Edwin. Since I need time to recover he will take over the planning for the operation. Don't worry, darling, Elijah is a dear friend and also serves my master. You can trust him almost as much as me – almost. I will await news of your success.

Until we meet again, my dear Myra, know that you hold a special place in my heart, a place reserved for only the most loyal and devoted of friends.

Yours in eternity,

Lucius Blake

Myra read the letter twice. How dare the Outcasts hurt Lucius! She added another reason to take revenge on Constantine St. John.He had left a sour taste in her mouth ever since the botched abduction and he had continuously ruined their plans. They could never be at peace as long as he lived. She knew Lucius wanted him alive, but he'd understand; after all, she was all he needed. She cradled the letter in her arms like a baby. Revenge could wait; Lucius needed her! She would do anything for Lucius!

Little did she know that for him, she was nothing but another pawn.
