Constantine stirred awake, the familiar sterile scent of the medbay filling his senses. His body ached, his mind felt sluggish, but as his vision cleared, the first thing he saw was Shift. She sat beside him, her face tense with worry, her hands gently adjusting his IV. The soft light from above reflected off her features, making her look even more concerned than usual.
"Hey..." Constantine rasped, his voice barely above a whisper. "What... what happened?"
Shift's eyes shot to his as he spoke. She seemed relieved just to hear his voice but quickly masked it with her usual professional demeanor. "You're awake," she said, a small smile forming despite her concern. "The others can explain better than I can." She reached out and squeezed his hand before standing up. "I'll call them in."
