"Alex! It's time for our bath," Sarah said as she forced him out of the bed and forced him to follow her. "How about we postpone it to this evening?" Alex asked while yawning. Well to begin with, he had an innovation that could change their lives. That was the reason for postponing although he didn't tell her. He expected resistance but she gave him a straight look and nodded before leaving for her bath. Alex hurried of to the shack and began drawing out the plans of the doo hickey.
He had always wanted to use wind as a source of energy so he decided to erect a wind turbine together with one of those wind mills. He put himself to work till noon while digging massive holes, then he put up a stone house and labelled it distributor and waited for the mortar to dry, it would be a couple of days. Then he put up one windmill and was about to work on the wind turbine before running out of materials. But then he figured he could use the wind mill as wind turbine for the time being. While waiting for the mortar to dry, Alex made a quick trip to the hardware store and came back with makeshift bulbs and installed. After the mortar had dried, he connected all the wires to a kill box near his home. Then he flipped the switch and crossed his fingers.
There was a big spark and crackles of electricity and the lights came on. After this, he had to think of a way to store all the electricity. But before anything else, he wanted to build his own custom Washer and Drier to save his wife from all the trouble of washing all their clothes. But well, he ran out of supplies and decided to head out to get some more. On the way to the different places he had to visit, he met up with Nate.
He looked stressed out by something as they talked in a building since Nate was scared to be in the vicinity of the man eaters. "What's on your mind?" Alex asked concerned. "My sister is sick and she might not make it," Nate said with a sigh. Alex wanted to help but he didn't know how so instead he did this, "Well, I could take care of her while you look for the medicine to treat her." Nate winced and looked at Alex with a raised eyebrow. "What? I'm serious! However, if you change your mind I'm still around for an hour," Alex said before leaving the building. Behind him, Nate scoffed and mumbled to himself, "As if I would actually do that. However, our food ration won't last long so I'd better come up with something."
Alex found exactly what he was looking for but he couldn't carry it all the way home so he needed a means of transport. 'Wait. If I can talk to zombies, I can just ask them to take it home for, don't they have like a super strength ability and what not,' Alex said to himself. Alex was about to execute this plan but he bumped into Nate on the way there. "Oh hey. I need help," Alex began while catching his breath. "Huh? What? Sorry I'm in a rush and I changed my mind," Nate said. "Do you have a means to travel around or carry heavy objects?" Alex asked. "I did use to have two horses and a wagon, will that be of help," Nate replied. Alex simply nodded and Nate led him to his base where he set up camp.
As they walked to Nate's camp, Alex got curious. "Say Nate, What is your sister suffering from?" Alex asked. "Well. She's suffering from depression cause our parents just died recently," Nate answered. If Alex had made a guess which of course he hadn't, they probably died of a natural cause. "They turned into those man eaters after coming into contact with the Necroa virus and I had to end them myself," Nate continued. "Well you could say I was in the same position theoretically so I totally get how she is feeling," Alex added. Nate stopped in his tracks and looked around. They were in a building that was crocked beyond limits. Bending over to the East as if praying to the morning sun. It was pretty worn out and the floor boards creaked with each step they took.
"We've arrived at the place," Nate said. Alex looked around wanting to spot some cover or a base but there was none in vicinity. Nate bent over and grabbed what seemed like a handle and pulled it open and the board creaked open and behold there was Nate's base. Well it was a dug out and concreted space meaning that from here it could withstand some amount of pressure. Alex followed Nate through the small corridor and into the base. He was welcomed by some woman crying. "Come on now, don't cry. We've got a visitor," Nate said as he hugged a young lady seated on the couch. "He's also the one who rescued me a few days ago."
The lady looked up to see Alex lost in complete thought though he was looking at her. "What really ails you?" Alex asked. She looked at him for a minute while thinking. "Didn't I mention that?" Nate asked. "I'd say the death of my parents," the lady answered. Alex nodded and sat on the couch next to her. This was the first that Nate actually saw her accept someone who is not him to sit that close. 'This person must good with the ladies or he's just hypnotized her,' Nate said to himself. Alex gently touched her cheeks and this made Nate almost jump on him and attack.
"It's okay to be sad but you really don't have to take your sadness to another level. Once my parents were gone I was heart broken but I came to understand one thing. Life becomes meaningless in just a flash and therefore whether it was a sacrifice or not, you can't afford to let their death become in vain," Alex said at length. "In any case I was also stuck there until two very special people came into my life and changed it." Nate left to prepare some food and came back with two servings. The lady, however wouldn't let Alex eat the food and she wouldn't eat hers either.
Alex glanced at the position of the shadow just outside and his senses told him he had to be getting on. "Well, my time's up and I have to get going," Alex said. "Won't you eat the food..." Nate began but was cut off by The lady. "Take me with you!" she said as she knelt and grabbed his feet like a little child. "Ah. Yes. That does remind me, I was supposed to take her off your hands but still that is if you're willing to," Alex said. "However before you agree or disagree, I want to know your name." "Well my name is Joyline Luna but you can call me Joy," Joy said. The name Luna sounded familiar to Alex but he couldn't remember where he had heard the name. Nate wanted this more than ever, to get rid of her and she become someone else's problem. He nodded and led Alex to where the two horses and Wagon were parked. Alex and Joyline boarded and Alex went to pick the equipment and tools he had left at the store before he began heading homewards.
