Daemon stopped his car and took out his phone to make a call. At that moment, Evelyn was also only getting back to her office, her face displaying obvious weariness. She was failing to hide the hint of defeat in her expression.
She let her bag down, and sat down, taking a moment to let out the depressed feeling in her chest with an exhale, before she moved to tidy up her desk before she clocked out for the day. It was then that her phone rang, and she smiled at the name displayed on the screen:
"Hey."
Daemon raised an eyebrow, already having an idea about what was happening, but he still asked, as he had to, even if only to show that he cared, and that he would listen:
"You seem in a low mood. Did something happen?"
Evelyn's smile softened, and her eyes lost the depression it had been showing, rippling with gentle affection:
"Nothing, just something that did not go according to what I expected."
