Chapter 69 - Mortal fury

White flame consumed both of them, but Hildebrant was not the only one who endured pain the Kiria did too staring at him through the flames that came out of his pores with her face being burned and regrowth at an insane speed.

There was not even a scratch left on her face only a whisp of flames touching her skin and pain that radiated from her eyes while the cape on her shoulder released bloody light.

But she didn't move, unlike Hildebrant who began to slowly break free from the constraint of his own blood.

His idea was simple.

If Kiria controlled his blood, he would burn it and if she controlled his flesh, he would also burn it.

It didn't matter it would leave him half-cripled, he was ascender and after some time of rest he would be good as new.

Using his affinity to fire he endured harrowing pain that consumed his body and drilled into his soul and ignored his flesh slowly turning into dust with his clothes until the power holding on his body disappeared and before Kiria could wake from shock the pain gave her he rushed down from square.

As flames disappeared his body was revealed darting down into alleys full of wooden houses but even while running deeper into a labyrinth of blood demons Kiria who sat on a bench didn't move just stared at the place where Hildebrant was just a second ago.

Stopping observing her he went deeper until the bench he sat on was away from his sight. But it was not enough to hide him from pursuit and as he expected when he looked behind and down, he watched as he left footprints from his own melted flesh and blood.

His blood might no longer boil from Kiria's influence, but it surely was not cold anymore as the only thing that kept him alive and moving were flames that coursed through the remains of his body.

They flowed like a river replacing his blood and helping it to heal and at the same time destroying it as he moved.

He could feel his life slipping away and holding on to the edge of life and death.

But Hildebrant didn't care, all he wanted right now was to find a place where to hide and sleep in darkness and not come out for five days.

Passing around another house he entered a bustling street filled with laughter and smiles and before he could even take a step all eyes of all people fell on him turning from happy to emotionless.

Then they all attacked.

Just the sight of it would make any person tremble in fear but Hildebrant with fury and desperation did not even think about running away.

Kiria would surely chase him down after she recovered from the shock, and finish the job herself.

Hildebrant felt weak and helpless but with cruel brutality he fought the enemies that came his way, using all his knowledge of the battle, battle arts, battle styles, and strategies he could remember and combining them to their extreme.

Even without a weapon, his first and legs turned into one and with fierceness and anger, he took care of anyone who came his way.

There was no one who could overpower him, but numbers kept increasing and with it his desperation.

He might dodge one or two strikes but not five and wounds kept accumulating on his body while he kept using his flames to burn flesh he touched, steel he grasped, and air that surrounded him just to keep himself alive.

After coming from the alley, he was spent and tired while behind him carpet of bodies lying on the ground, howling and crying while crawling on the floor.

None were dead but some wished to be.

Grasping the hilt of the sword stabbed into his shoulder he took it out with grinded teeth and threw it on the ground. Then he continued to run but there would be always new people to block his way or try to stop him.

Each time he fought he left something behind.

Part of his flesh, some of his blood, his enemies, swords, spears, and armor.

Bloodied and tired he dragged his body behind one of the houses and let blood demons pass by.

He was at his limits but before he could breathe sword passed through the house and almost embedded itself into his skull.

Twisting his body, he punched his assailant in the face and then with raged breath observed a passed-out boy who attacked him before tiredly stripping him of his armor and putting it on himself while pondering about something.

How did they all know how he looked?

Why were they so desperate to get him?

When would this nightmare end?

Would he be able to get home?

There were so many questions it was just bad there was no one to answer him.
