Chapter 48 - Blockade

Making his choice Hildebrant did not even dust himself and began to circle the fight of three sides using all the mastery he gained over his body and Icarus teachings.

No one noticed him moving between the collapsed buildings not even Ivistar and Cecilie who kept fighting against Icarus with great calmness.

It didn't mean however that they didn't try to kill Icarus, they did and Hildebrant could tell just from looking at their ferocious battle style that they desired nothing more than topple the crimson giant down.

But Icarus refused to fall.

With a howl, he sent both of them back and then without hesitation grabbed the closer combatant and compressed him into a ball of flesh that in his hand turned into a spear he threw at Ivistar.

While doing it his other hand grasped another person and used him to crush Ascender that sword shined with similar flames as his own and while doing all that he had time even parry the spear that came his way.

If not for Cecilie and Ivistar most of the people would be already dead and even with them Icarus didn't look to take them seriously, and he was right.

The moment he moved out blood vessels sprouting all around, growing on corpses of people and wooden debris immediately stopped consuming what they held and began to slowly crawl his way as if afraid to scare him.

"Hill stop and come back I will not hurt you. I can explain everything just please listen to me."

Came a voice from the belly of one corpse completely consumed by the blood vessels and through dust he watched as Icarus tried to turn around but was stopped by white fog that came from Cecilie's fingers.

In retaliation, Icarus just growled like a hurt animal and Ivistar hearing him laughed.

"What Icarus? Afraid now? "

Icarus furry then could be heard dripping from his voice.

"Let me go you imbecile!"

Hildebrant did not wait for them to finish their conversation and made his way to the dark corridor from where he escaped just five seconds ago.

Ember was already manifested into his hand and bright light illuminated marble walls that were now covered in crimson blood vessels from whose small eyes turned to look at him and from one of them even mouth opened.

"Please Hill! Wait for me!"

Gentles dripped from the overgrown creature that was once called human, and its eyes unnaturally turned to him.

Everything in the corridor was like that, even darkness looked as if it was influenced by blood and began to twist around his dome of light and try to stop him.

While it did, blood vessels moved to follow him and even dripped from the ceiling almost touching his skin and tattered clothes. But Hildebrant did not give Icarus any chance and even blood that dripped on him evaporated turning into crimson steam.

"Wait Hill! "

"Please wait!"

"Wait!"

"I will explain!"

"Wait for meee!"

Distorted voices came from everywhere, from each wall and blood vessels that began to dash his way. Even the path he wanted to take began to be overgrown with the same fleshly abomination forming a wall.

Being overwhelmed by hundreds of voices saying the different things Hildebrant took a step back and pondered if this was really what he wanted. Would it not be easier just to let himself be consumed by blood vessels and let Icarus do what he wanted?

But would he be happy then?

Could he be happy without his family?

A scream that shook the corridor overgrown by flesh and blood vessels that began to crawl up his boots to touch his flesh woke him up and then with grided teeth Hildebrant dived into flesh his skin turning white from the pure amount of flames he poured into his being.

He didn't save anything for later and let his flames rampage through his skin and flesh.

Harrowing power began to course through him as blood vessels and flesh kept boiling and slowly evaporating, even his clothes had no choice but to turn into dust before blinding light and heat with escaped his body.

For a while, all he could watch was crimson flesh and slight light coming from his skin and pain that manifested in each fiber of his being.

He swam through the crimson and red while despair slowly began to grip his heart. With a roar, he pushed his hands, made another step, and then grasped another flesh that kept turning into dust under his touch.

Burned smell entered his nose but even that disappeared under harrowing pain that begged his body to let go and give up.

His mind refused and his body continued to push until he tore the last of the flesh and the light of sunset shined on his body filling him with strength.

Taking another two steps on the white shore he let flames scatter and another pain coming from his steaming skin and burned muscles entered his mind, but he still turned his head to look.

The dark corridor was now filled with overgrown flesh and blood vessels from with various small and big eyes kept observing him and calling him back. It was a harrowing sight that made Hildebrant's heart shake and his mind tremble.

It took all his powers to ignore please and then walk deeper into the depths of the white shore.

He hoped there he would lose sight of his hunter.
