A famous Monkey is never good with families
//Year 1444
"Well, look who is here ! If it isn't my baby girl ! You haven't aged a day ! Come to mommy !" Monkey D Frey, who was in her eighties said lovingly to the woman who has appeared suddenly on the frame of her window.
While taking care of Xebec in the drum island, Maki used to visit her family in the east blue every once in a while. And by every once in a while means once in every six months or so. But considering that she rarely visited them because of her status as the secret eye candy of the world Government and the five elders, visiting once in every 6 months can be considered as really frequent.
Last time she visited her family it was in 1440. Back then, her younger brother Monkey D Gem was 53 years old and her mother has reached the age of 80 years old. While Maki had reached the age of 57, she still looked like in her early twenties. So Frey has developed a habit to treat Maki as a child.
But Maki never registed her attempts to treat her like a child. She loved her family. But for Maki something else was more important. And besides not contacting them was her own way to keep them safe from the clutches of the world government. A very few people knew about her true name. While the world government feared her, there was no guarantee that they won't do anything against her. Kureha was the only visible weakness the world government has found so far against Maki. And because it is a singular target, the government has not dared to make any move against her. But if it is multiple targets then they will definitely find a way to separate them and threaten Maki.
That's the main reason why Maki usually stayed away from her family.
But there is no problem enjoying some rare moments with them.
Maki quietly walked towards her and sat beside her chair on the ground. Due to her height it was the only way she could hug her mother.
Frey ruffled her hair lovingly. She understood her daughter very well. That's why she never complaint about her absence. But as a mother, always wishes that her child would spend more time with her.
Her other child, Gem has grown to a fine young man. He has managed to become one of the most successful businessman in the Goa island. Infact he has become the best supplier of luxury furnitures in the entire is blue.
They have left their poor life behind and now living in a luxurious mansion in the Goa Kingdom. Although Frey liked the serinity of the windmill village more, she was not sad with their current lifestyle either.
She was worried about her son's future. At the age of fifty, he was still single. But even he was late, last year his son finally managed to bring a girl for himself.
"So Gem is married now, huh ?" Maki asked her.
"How do you know ?" Frey asked surprised.
"Colour of observation. There is another presence in his room, and they are going at it with quit some enthusiasm." Maki said the obvious.
"Mhahahaha ! Oh ! How can I forget about that ! It seems my old age is catching up to me. I can't use haki anymore....
Yeah, they got married a couple of months ago. Gem brought her to our home around an year ago. Her name is Grey. She is retired marine captain." Frey laughed heartily.
"Are you sure about her ?" The moment Maki heard that her sister in law was an ex marine captain, she immidiately got concerned.
Frey's eyes softened.
"She was the Marine captain of Shell's town Marine base. Don't worry. Not every person who works for the world government is evil you know. Grey is a good girl. We even have similar sounding Names ! Mhahahaha !"
Although Maki was still sceptical about her new sister in law, through her observation haki she could sense her strength. It was barely same as the natural strength of her brother. So her being a marine captain might not be far from the truth.
"Anyway... How long are you going to stay ?" Frey asked Maki after a little pause.
"I am not sure. I came back thinking about taking a break. But I can't stay for too long for obvious reasons. But I don't want to go either." Maki said slowly and started transforming into her full zoan form while shrinking her original size to that of a house cat. After completely transforming, she left her clothes on the floor and jumped on to the lap of her mother.
"Maybe I will stay for longer this time." Maki said turning her head and then quietly rested on her lap.
Frey started stroking her head.
"So you ate a devil fruit huh ? Are you going to reveal yourself to Gem ?" Frey asked her.
"Not now." Maki told frey and started taking a nap.

For next six months I stayed near Frey. Although Gem saw me, he wasn't against keeping a pet. So no one suspected my presence. I felt bad for not being able to reveal myself. But revealing myself would definitely bring a lot of trouble.
On top of that, I didn't mind the life of a cat. Lazy and simple. And send I was planning to stay till the birth of Garp, I got used to live a simple life.
Soon I realised that mother might be right about Grey. Grey is a woman with average height, tan skin, black eyes, shoulder length platinum blonde hair and a really curvy figure. She was fourty four, when Gem married her. A little late, for both of them. But considering that in this world, people usually reach there prime at fourty, both of them can be considered as middle aged. I got blended into the family of three.
That year, I experienced, some of the most peaceful moments in my life.
But every good thing must came to an end.
//Year 1445 August 31st
Monkey D Frey passed away peacefully while sleeping on her bed. It was really a peaceful death. No illness or suffering. That night for the first time in a long time I cried. I heard my brother silently cursing me. But my absence was for the best.
A famous Monkey is never good with families. Wheather it is in the anime, or in real life, it was most certainly true.
