Chapter 34 - HER PUNISHMENT: III

Gavriel stepped out of the carriage, looked at the tall wide structure in front of him, and started strutting towards it.

Florah carefully got down from the carriage, lifting the front of her dress so as not to trip and fall like the other time.

Quickly following behind the king, which was hard because she kept on getting distracted by looking at the building they were heading into.

The building was built in a circular form, and several small windows were on the side of the building.

Tall well carved marble pillars stood high beside the structure like they were holding it in place.

Florah jogged to catch up with her master who strutted his long legs, leaving quite a distance between them.

And it didn't help that she was also getting distracted by ogling at the theatre.

Nearing the entrance of the building, the two guards that stood at either side of the doorway bowed at the king as he stepped inside.

Luckily enough, Florah had caught up with him and was able to enter after him, or else she would have been taken for a trespasser.

The guards just looked at her and concluded that she must be the king's maid because if she wasn't, he would have gotten rid of her for following him.

If Florah wasn't mesmerized enough by the outside, she was blown away by the inside.

Several well curved vanished wooden frames housed beautiful paintings of different sceneries.

One painting was of the beautiful countryside, it had a big green forest, small houses were scattered here and there and women and men looked to be harvesting in a corn field, carrying woven baskets by there hips.

Florah ogled at one painting after the other, almost missing a step every now and then.

She looked ahead to see the king turn a corner, hurriedly walking towards him. She caught up to him almost out of breath from jogging most of her way to him.

"You seem to be fascinated by the arts," Gavriel said, glancing back at the girl.

"Yes, master. I have always been intrigued by them, " Florah said, still in a trance.

"Well, you would be delighted to join them soon," Gavriel drawled.

Florah looked at the man's back in confusion of what he meant by that statement.

The two walked in silence the rest of the way, with Florah racking her brain over the last statement of the king. 'What did he mean by that?'

Soon, they arrived in a room that was filled with costumes, swords, axes and arrows were staffed in a corner. Florah looked around, wondering what the place was.

Gavriel made himself comfortable on a nearby chair, leaving Florah standing while she fed her eyes with everything thing she saw.

Costumes hanging on racks, mirrors placed here and there with small lanterns hanging over then.

Soon, she heard hurried footsteps coming from a corner that had a short flight of stairs.

A gray-haired man appeared wearing an oversized shirt and trousers.

"Greetings, Your Majesty, l am truly sorry to have kept such royalty waiting for a humble servant like me." The man bowed deeply to express his apologies.

Gavriel just brushed off the sugar-coated words of the play director of the night theatre.

"James, was it.."He asked for the play director to nod his head profusely.

"James, l want you to direct my play that your actors and actresses will perform as entertainment for tomorrow's midnight ball." Gavriel instructed the man as he sat leisurely on the sofa in the backroom of the theatre.

James had been informed earlier by a servant of the castle of how the king was coming to the theatre.

He was happily and anxiously waiting by the main entrance of the building with everyone who worked in the 'dome of arts' to receive the sovereign warmly.

But he was later informed by the guard that the king had used the back entrance to enter the dome.

He raced to the changing rooms to meet the king, leaving everyone there confused.

Now, hearing what the king said, his dead heart sang in joy, doing a production in the castle for all those esteemed guests would be the epiphany of his career.

He had only one major problem, he had to come up with a perfect play under a day's time.

But how could he refuse such an honour offered by the king himself.

Wait, the king had said 'my play', did he already have a play in mind.

"Your Majesty, do you already have a play in mind" James the director inquired respectfully.

Without saying anything, Gavriel handed the rolled parchment to the man.

Before the man opened the script, Gavriel said

"She will be the female lead" he uttered while pointing at the clueless Florah.
