Florah ran until she reached the servant's quarters. Frantically looking around, she hoped the silver haired man did not follow her.
She saw a couple of maids looking at her like she was strange and she politely smiled trying to tame her ranging heart.
"Florah where have you been, go to the kitchen before Madam grumpy finds out that you are not there". Whitney advised Florah while she made her way to the stables.
Florah bowed and thanked her, making her way to the kitchen. She reached a minute before Madam Margaret walked in with a stern face.
"Make sure that they are spotless" the woman ordered Florah and other maids that were cleaning the utensils.
"Today the Royal family won't have dinner, that gives you more time to prepare for tomorrow's breakfast. There will be more guests arriving at dawn, all respectable. I expect you to act accordingly and tend to there needs as required of you". The head maid sternly instructed
"All of you are expected to be awake before I hear the useless birds chirp".
"YES MADAM" the maids said in unison.
Florah did her remaining tasks absent-minded as she kept thinking about the man she met in the hallway. She prayed to never meet him again because he scared the living daylights out of her.
"Can some vampires perform magic!" She wondered. 'Jer' didn't tell her anything about that, so could he also perform magic or was it the silver haired man's ability.
Because she remembered Jeremiah telling her that some purebloods had different abilities and were very powerful and one of them included the king.
Thinking of Jeremiah, now she realized she missed him. She wondered if he was fine and if he had read her letter.
Far away from the castle, a youthful vampire stood in a rigid position staring at the small stream of water that surrounded the mansion he lived in with his family.
Looking down at the words on the piece of paper that were poorly written by use of charcoal.
ΓΓ Hello blockhead,
Great news!! I got a job at the castle to work as a kitchen hand in the upcoming ball. It is a long story how I even got it, I too was surprised by this outcome.
I plan to work there for a month and get enough money to move to where you live in Vallingwell town. If all goes as planned.
Because maybe then we could find out what is wrong with me since we have found nothing in Dradfold so far.
I hope to see you soon.
Yours sincerely,
A breathtaking girl.
She copied his words.
Tiredly exhaling, he muttered "I remember teaching her to write better than this, so messy". He criticized
" The castle huh Lorah, how naive." Jeremiah said while crumpling the paper and tossing it into the burning fireplace.
After a couple of minutes, two knocks sounded on Jeremiah's bedroom door.
"You called, young master" The butler entered and addressed Jeremiah.
"Prepare my luggage, l am leaving for Harringvale first thing in the morning". Jeremiah instructed while writing a parchment at his desk.
"Yes master" the butler bowed before going to execute his master's order.
Florah didn't get a wink of sleep due to her worries that the silver haired man would find her and that her night spasms would happen while she slept.
Now thinking back at that moment, she remembered the man asking 'What are you?'
Why would he ask that she wondered. 'I am human'. She thought
Florah felt like crying, she doubted that she was a human herself. She had to leave the castle sooner than expected before she was suspected of being a witch, which she prayed wasn't the case.
"The Duke of the South, Elvis Davidson and his wife, Duke Lester Tarvald, Your Uncle Marquess Francis, his wife and there two children. All are to arrive today 'your majesty'.
I also received word this morning that Jeremiah Dalton will also arrive today, sire"
"Hmmm" Gavriel hummed in response with a white towel wrapped around his waist leaving his well chiseled torso and chest in plain sight.
Water droplets fell from his hair, sliding down his hard chest and torso to disappear below his towel.
Sitting at the small dining area located near the floor to ceiling window. Matthew moved to prepare the King's breakfast which was just a bottle of blood wine, pouring it into the glass he moved back to give the man his privacy.
"Matt, bring the maid" Gavriel instructed.
Bowing, the butler made his way to fetch the girl.
Reaching Florah's room he knocked once, he heard the girl hurry to open the door from the other side.
Florah's eyes widened as she looked at the butler who was standing at her door. 'Did she do something wrong' she wondered.
"Good morning, Sir" Florah bowed and greeted.
The butler simply nodded and said "Follow me".
Florah stepped out of her room with her blood shot eyes confused and scared, asking herself 'What the butler wanted with her this early morning'
Leaving the servant's quarters, Florah followed the butler as the two climbed the stairs that led to the first floor, then climbed to the third all while Florah's heart beat wildly, as if with alittle scare it would jump out of her chest.
Florah stilled when the butler climbed the flight of stairs that led to the forth floor where the King's Chambers resided.
Matthew sensed that the loud girl was not following him, without looking back he said "Do you want me to carry you, Miss Crest?"
"No sir, l apologise".
Florah took deep breaths for her heart to slightly calm down as she continued to follow the butler.
Reaching the forth floor, Florah slightly lifted her head to look at the black walls and two big well carved doors placed cross each other, there were no paintings on the wall, just a plain black surface.
The Kings Chambers looked desolate and abandoned giving off an eerie vibe.
Knocking on the King's bedroom door, Florah heard the butler announce "Your Majesty, she is with me".
The butler opened the door and stepped aside, placing his hand forward motioning to Florah to enter.
Florah warily looked at him and stepped inside only a couple of steps near the door incase she needed to bolt out of here.
Hearing the door close behind her, the red head became more nervous 'What does the king want with her', she asked herself.
She had heard stories from the maids of how maids went up to the King's Chambers and were never seen again.' Was this her time?, Was she going to die by the King's hands' several answered questions ran through her head.
"Come". She heard a familiar deep voice call her but didn't remember where she had heard it.
Nervously walking to where she heard the voice, Florah wished she hadn't come to the castle in the first place. Now here she was going to meet her death.
Walking further into the room, she caught a glance of a man seated in a chair hidden behind a column.
Keeping her eyes down, she stopped ten feet away from the man who was supposedly the king of the land.
Gavriel stood up to meet the disheveled girl, who looked like she was going to pass out any minute.
She wore her maid's uniform which looked crumpled, her hair was array like she had been pulling it.
"Gg..ood mmornningg, Your Majesty" Florah stuttered while greeting the King.
She felt like taking ten steps back with each step he took moving forward. Florah wished she could just drop dead this instant to avoid getting a heart attack from all that was happening.
Stopping three steps away from the girl, "Eyes up" Gavriel ordered.
Hearing the familiar voice, Florah's eyes widened as her head jerked up to look at the silver haired man from last night whose voice she finally recognised.
