Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Overload Crisis

Spider-Ham took a quick look and shook his head, saying, "I don't know. You can ask Peni later."

The communicator's functions and usage were quite simple. It was essentially an earplug that you insert into your ear before putting on the mask of your spider suit. By default, it only receives messages. Long-pressing activates talk mode, while short-pressing twice turns it off. It was very user-friendly.

"Hello, Peni? Mr. Noir?" Peter tried calling out but received no response. He looked at Spider-Ham with a puzzled expression.

Spider-Ham shrugged and said, "Maybe they went to find another way out."

"What do you mean?" Peter asked.

Spider-Ham explained, "They suspected that the underground disturbance might be related to the escaped Doc Ock. They were afraid that entering through the Fisk Building would alert her or even cause her to take desperate measures and destroy the particle collider."

"So they asked Miles about an alternative route from a nearby subway station," he continued. "This communicator has a reception range of only 6 kilometers without a network connection. They should be 6 kilometers away by now."

Peter and Spider-Gwen suddenly realized the situation.

"Peter, what's going on up there? Why aren't you done yet?" Amazing Spider-Man B's voice rang out.

Peter replied helplessly, "There's too much information. Wait a little longer. It will probably take about another half an hour."

"Well, I really don't want to sit in a cramped carriage with this big pig anymore!" Amazing Spider-Man B complained.

"Hey! I can hear you!" Spider-Ham shouted.

"Uh, you're not fat," Amazing Spider-Man B quickly apologized.

Spider-Ham gave him a questioning look. "Is this about whether I'm fat or not? You called me a pig!"

"But you are a pig," Amazing Spider-Man B pointed out.

"If you keep saying that, I'm going to come over there and fight you," Spider-Ham said eagerly.

Peter immediately saw through his plan and pulled him back with a web. "Don't even think about running off. Stay here and help organize the information!"

"Fine," Spider-Ham grunted, snorting through his pig nose as he sat back down.

After a while, the information was finally sorted out, leaving only the final scanning work. Peter picked up the documents one by one, glancing at each of them.

Spider-Gwen and Spider-Ham watched with amusement as he busied himself. Their leisurely demeanor made Peter grumble inwardly, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Spider-Ham didn't have a spider suit. He only wore a single piece of clothing over his mutated body. As for Spider-Gwen, her spider suit was purely clothing without any high-tech functions.

Among the Spider-People present, only Peter and Peni's suits possessed advanced technological capabilities. With Peni gone, the task fell solely on Peter's shoulders.

What about Amazing Spider-Man B? Perhaps one of his suits back in his original universe had such features, but the one he currently wore definitely did not.

The main reason for the delay was the sheer volume of information Kingpin had accumulated, even after he had consciously organized it.

The documents typically recorded transactions on specific dates, such as someone giving Kingpin a certain amount of money to eliminate a target, or Kingpin using funds to appease his subordinates and have someone else take the blame to avoid tracing the matter back to him.

They also detailed the dates and amounts of bribes accepted by individuals to facilitate Kingpin's activities, as well as records of joint ventures between Kingpin and various partners.

The information had already been greatly simplified. If every single event were to be documented in full detail, the amount of data would be even more staggering. Kingpin's influence was incredibly extensive, involving a vast number of people.

Bluntly put, if someone were to obtain these materials and possess the ability to safeguard them without being silenced by the implicated parties, they could potentially become the next Kingpin. Someone like Peter, for example.

However, Peter had no interest in such pursuits. There were some items he did not intend to disclose for the time being. Nonetheless, he would scan everything and store electronic backups alongside the physical documents on an external hard drive without network connectivity, which he would keep in Blond Spider-Man's underground base.

Just as Peter was engrossed in his work, with Spider-Gwen and Spider-Ham equally absorbed in watching him, a voice suddenly emanated from their earpiece communicators. It was Peni.

"Hello? Can everyone hear me?" she asked.

"Yes, what's the situation on your end?" Peter responded.

"We found the particle collider, right beneath the Fisk Building," Peni reported.

"We already know that," Peter replied.

Peni continued, "But the particle collider is not in the correct state right now. I've reviewed its specifications in the underground base, and its current speed is at least three times faster than the intended design!"

"What does that mean?" Amazing Spider-Man B inquired.

Peni's tone turned gravely serious. "It means that the original warm-up time of 10 hours has been reduced to just 2.5 hours!"

"2.5 hours? How long has it been since Doc Ock escaped?" Peter asked.

"Approximately one hour and fifty minutes," Noir Spider-Man stated. "I have a keen sense of time."

"So we only have ten minutes left?" Peter raised an eyebrow.

"No," Peni clarified. "In fact, the particle collider had already been running for about two hours before we arrived here!"

"The consequences of the particle collider operating under such an overload must be severe, right?" Spider-Gwen asked.

Peter's expression turned solemn. He had thoroughly reviewed all the information and studied Blond Spider-Man's analysis of the particle collider.

"The consequences can't be simply described as 'severe.' Under normal operating conditions, a particle collider could potentially generate a black hole due to the immense energy released upon collision, swallowing up the entirety of Brooklyn," he explained.

"The good news is that after this incident, the particle collider will be completely unusable. The bad news is that if not handled properly, all of New York could be consumed!"

However, there was another piece of good news. The reload key 2.0, originally designed to reverse the program and send Noir Spider-Man's team back, had inadvertently become the key to resolving this crisis.

The reload key's ability to invert the program would allow for the rapid release of energy after the collision, rendering it powerless by severing its connection to the liquid helium diversion system.

The formation of black holes, or simulated black holes, required a continuous supply of tremendous energy. If the energy was insufficient, even if a black hole were to form, it would instantly annihilate itself.

In that case, the momentary burst of energy would, at most, cause a localized explosion, possibly destroying Kingpin's Fisk Building.

In any case, it was preferable to jeopardizing the lives of New York's 8 million inhabitants. Moreover, the building had served as Kingpin's den of iniquity.

Given Kingpin's current state, he would have no use for it in the future.

"Peni, how long did it take you to locate the collider?" Peter asked urgently, sensing the gravity of the situation.

"Twenty minutes," she replied.

"Wait, let me process this." Peter reached up and rubbed his head.
