Since the public flirt with Daniel Evans, her life seemed shrouded in gloom and became the center of the rumor.
Wherever she went, his presence and surveillance seemed palpable.
Grace Jones and Eva Hudson were strolling on campus when a familiar figure appeared, stopping them on their tracks.
"Hi, my dear Grace." Daniel greeted with a cryptic smile.
Instinctively, Grace hid behind Eva, gripping her arm tightly, fearing his next move.
"What do you want?" Eva asked, feigning composure.
"Don't be so defensive." Daniel said casually, nodding and smiling at passersby.
"I'm just here to say hello to Grace and invite her to dinner." He produced a sandalwood box from his pocket, cradling it in his palm. "Consider this a peace offering for our reconciliation," he said, opening the box to reveal an expensive diamond ring.
The two were stunned into silence by the unexpected gesture. "Don't be ungrateful; I chose this especially for you."
Daniel said, seeing her lack of reaction. "If you're obedient, there will be rewards. But if you keep being stubborn. Well, you might regret it."
He looked at her meaningfully, then raised the ring as if he drops it.
"Please don't do this!" Grace cried out loud, eyes fixed on the ring.
His smile grew smug as he lowered his arm, offering the ring to Grace.
"Take it, as a token of my affection. But you must agree one thing with me."
Grace swallowed hard, torn. Eva tugged at her sleeve, worried.
"Don't be afraid. I won't make it hard for you. " Daniel coaxed. "Just move in with me, and I'll protect you, ensuring you never suffer. Sound fair, right?"
Grace stared at the gleaming ring in his hand, then at Eva's concerned face, her heart wrestling with the decision.
Finally, she made an unexpected choice-she slapped the ring to the ground. With a "snap" the precious stone shattered on the hard pavement.
"Get lost! I won't fall for your tricks!" Grace shouted defiantly. Daniel was stunned by her unexpected action, speechless in the moment.
He could only see the broken ring, disbelief in his eyes.
"What a stubborn little thing, " Daniel finally said with a light laugh. "But no matter what happens, I've always liked the challenge."
He bowed exaggeratedly and walked away, leaving the two alone.
Once Daniel was gone, Eva exhaled and hugged Grace tightly.
"You're so brave. I hope he doesn't seek revenge." Eva whispered.
Grace nodded silently, her heart filled with fear and uncertainty.
"Would him intensify his efforts because of my refusal? Would my future be even more passive?" Grace could not help thinking, everything was stepping into the unknown.
