Jack stumbled out of bed, his feet tangling in the sheets as he attempted to make his way to the bathroom. With a groan, he untangled himself and finally managed to reach the door, only to stub his toe on the way out. "Ow, not again," he muttered, rubbing his sore foot.
As he splashed cold water on his face, Jack couldn't shake the feeling of boredom that had settled over him like a heavy blanket. School had ended for the summer, and while most of his friends were off on exciting adventures, he was stuck at home with nothing to do.
Dragging himself downstairs, Jack's clumsiness struck again as he tripped over the rug in the hallway, narrowly avoiding crashing into the wall. "Seriously, could this day get any worse?" he muttered to himself.
Reaching the kitchen, Jack attempted to make himself breakfast, but his attempts at cracking eggs resulted in a mess of shells and yolk on the counter. With a sigh, he settled for a bowl of cereal, hoping that at least one thing would go right today.
After breakfast, Jack decided to tackle the mess that was his room. As he rummaged through his closet, he accidentally knocked over a pile of old books, sending them tumbling to the floor. Among the fallen books, one caught his eye—a dusty tome with strange symbols etched into its cover.
Curiosity piqued, Jack picked up the book and flipped through its pages, his eyes widening as he came across diagrams and incantations he couldn't begin to understand. "What's this doing here?" he wondered aloud, scratching his head.
Without thinking, Jack traced his finger along one of the incantations, mumbling the words under his breath. Suddenly, the room began to swirl and spin, colors blending together in a dizzying whirlwind.
Panicked, Jack tried to back away, but it was too late. With a blinding flash of light, the chaos subsided, leaving Jack blinking in confusion as he found himself face to face with... himself.
But not quite.
Standing before him was a girl who looked remarkably like him, right down to the messy hair and clumsy demeanor. She blinked at him in surprise, mirroring his own bewildered expression.
"W-who are you?" Jack stammered, his heart racing.
The girl version of himself frowned, her brow furrowing in confusion. "I... I think I'm you," she replied slowly.
Jack's head was spinning with a million questions, but before he could ask any of them, the doorbell rang, breaking the awkward silence that had settled between them.
With a sinking feeling, Jack realized that things were about to get a whole lot weirder.
Before he could react, the girl version of himself darted behind the nearest piece of furniture, hiding from whoever was at the door. Jack, still reeling from the shock of her appearance, hesitated for a moment before reluctantly making his way to the door.
Opening it cautiously, Jack found himself face to face with his best friend, Mark, who grinned at him with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Hey, Jack! Ready for our epic gaming marathon?"
Jack's mind raced as he tried to come up with an explanation for the girl hiding in his living room. "Uh, yeah, just give me a sec," he muttered, desperately trying to buy some time.
Mark raised an eyebrow, clearly sensing something was off, but he shrugged and followed Jack into the living room, oblivious to the girl crouched behind the couch.
As Jack tried to focus on the upcoming gaming marathon, he couldn't shake the feeling that his life was about to get a whole lot more complicated.
