Wonder what are the other things to do, I thought to myself. I have to bond with Noelle if I want to get closer to her.
Hmmm...AHA! Maybe teaching her how to cook? And wonder what to cook, maybe pancakes because it's easy, I'll ask Noelle.
I ran to Noelle's room, I hope she accepts it.
*Knock Knock knock*
*Creeeaak*
She's more active today when I knock at her door.
"Do you have anything to do? If not, uhhh do you want me to teach you how to cook pancakes?" I asked
She lightened up after what I said and nodded, both of us went downstairs. I readied the cooking tools, bowls, frying pan, and ingredients, I called her to teach her the steps, both of us had a bowl to mix.
"First, put in the flour, it can be many or depends on how many pancakes you want to cook, then, put the baking powder, don't put too much baking powder, just small, add eggs if needed and mix them"
Noelle saw my instructions, she copied the steps I instructed her.
"Now add water, don't put too much, just as the same as the flour, the flour will seep the water so the water will decrease, mix it, if there's no more water, add water again, make sure it's not too watery, just like this, then mix mix mix mix, now, this is what you call a batter, flour with friends mixed with water"
Noelle followed my instructions, she mix and mix and mix then perfect.
"Okay next, ready your pan, add oil to the pan to avoid the batter stick on the frying pan, not too much and not too low, heat the oil, wait for the oil to heat"
We waited, I saw smoke
"Now that the oil is hot, get a spoon or whatever or pour the batter on the pan, you can put a lot or not much, the more batter you poured the bigger the pancake"
I poured some batter in the pan
"Then, we will wait for the bottom to be brown or cooked"
We waited, I used a spatula to check, it is brown.
"Now that it is brown, use the spatula to turn the pancake so that the top will also be cooked"
I turned the pancake with the spatula,
"And again, we wait"
A few minutes later, I checked the bottom.
"And here it is, a cooked pancake"
I lifted the pancake with my spatula and put it in a big flat plate.
"Now, it is your turn to try" I said to Noelle while handing her the spatula
I let her walk to the pan, she carried her contained batter to pour it in the pan.
"Uuhhh, how to pour again and how much batter should I pour?" Noelle asked me
The big spoon like the spoon for scooping soup would guide her but I don't have that here, I usually don't cook pancakes or other foods that need that big spoon, when it comes to food with soup on it, I just use the normal spoon.
"Just how much you like to pour, small or big pancake whatever you like" I said to her
"Uhh, can you please guide me?, if I do it without a guide, I might pour all the batter" she said to me
I experienced that before when I was a child, I need them to like to see them in action doing it, not blaming her tho.
Okay then, I went behind her and hold her hands to guide her on pouring it, eeeeeekkkk I am touching her hands, NO, it is my duty as a father to teach my daughter whatever it takes and it is my daughter so there's no need to get embarrassed.
I guided her on how to pour and how many batters to pour, she turned around, her cheeks are blushing, why is she blushing? Oh, no wait, maybe the heat of the oil made her face red....maybe.
"Uuhhhh okay thank you" she said to me
I watched her again to pour batter, she just did what I teach her, she's a fast learner. She cooked and cooked and cooked until all of the batter was empty. I washed the tools we used for making the pancake while she cooked the remaining pancake.
"The pancake is ready now" Noelle said to me
Hmmm... Something's missing, oh right, sauce. I remember buying a maple sauce for pancakes last week. I went to the cabinet and found it. Both of us got a plate and took some pancakes, we have a lot of pancakes, I will put the remaining in the cupboard so that if the two of us get hungry, we will just take one.
We passed each other the maple sauce and we ate in silence.
"Uhhh, did I teach you properly to cook pancakes?" I asked Noelle
She lightened up and blushed and looked away.
"Y-yes" she replied
Huh? What the hell is wrong with my daughter today, why is she blushing? Something fishy here but she's my daughter, maybe she's just shy because I'm a new face to her. How many days passed after I adopted her? 5 days maybe, not good enough to get closer to her.
Oh right, an 18 year old guy with a 17 year old daughter, wonder what people think of that, both of us just eat out pancakes in silence, I hope I could get a closer relationship with my daughter.
