Chen Yan was bathed in silvery moonlight. In different circumstances, she might have looked like a goddess with her brilliant, emerald-like eyes and silky green hair fluttering in the wind. But now, she appeared disheveled, anxious, and fearful.
A formidable beast stood in front of her, growling intermittently and spraying saliva everywhere. However, it did not attack Chen Yan, seemingly aware that the Gu worm in her hands was in danger.
Rue Bu's body lay still beside a tree behind her. She didn't know his condition, but she assumed he was dead or unconscious since he hadn't moved at all after the beast's devastating attack.
"Fuck! What do I do? I'm almost out of primeval essence, and even if I had enough for one or two attacks, they wouldn't do much damage to its body. And if I start running again, if the wingless bat doesn't catch up to me, I'll end up in the desolate desert, which isn't any better than this situation." Her thoughts raced as she grew more and more nervous, her heart pounding nonstop.
"Should I really just give the mindless wasp to it?" She gritted her teeth. "No! This Gu worm is mine, mine alone! I have gone through so much trouble to get it, I won't abandon it no matter what!" Her eyes dimmed as she spoke, and her breathing became steady. For some reason, she grew calmer, as if the towering monster was no longer there.
But in the next second, she was jolted back to reality. The monster's claws came at her with speed and precision. Flustered, Chen Yan frantically activated a Gu worm, which adorned her with bark-like armor.
"No!" she screamed frantically as the monster's attack wasn't aimed at her, but at the Gu worm in her hand. To save the Gu worm, she threw it away, unable to store it, fearing the monster would destroy it while attacking.
The beast suddenly grinned, and with a swift, incredibly fast motion, its other claw ripped Chen Yan's head off. Her head flew away and landed on the ground, the shock still evident on her face.
The scene was bone-chilling. The monster basked in the fountain of blood pouring from Chen Yan's decapitated body. After a while, the beast looked confused, as if it didn't know why it was there. It glanced left and right in bewilderment, then saw Chen Yan's body and the blood still flowing out. Grabbing her body, it started sucking the blood, resembling a demon decapitating the forest goddess and feasting on her blood to quench its thirst.
After finishing, the beast left the location, forgetting why it was there and what had happened. The forest returned to silence as the beast's footsteps faded into the distance, restoring its former tranquility and peace.
"Your guess was right." Rue Bu's voice came from behind a tree. Addressing the voice, but it didn't respond back."I was confused about why Chen Yan was so protective of this Gu worm. Even if she risked her life to get it and went through various hardships, she even threw the Gu worm away to save it rather than give it back to the wingless bat." he continued.
"It seemed like she and her team stole the Gu worm from it, but how could they have done that if it was inside its body? This means the wild beast didn't keep the Gu worm inside its body, instead leaving it behind, making it possible for them to steal it."
"And why would it try to destroy it at the end of the fight? It didn't make any sense, but now it does. Chen Yan's strange behavior and the wild beast's actions can be explained by this Gu worm's ability." he said, looking at the metallic green wasp in his hand. It shimmered in the moonlight, frantically flapping its elegant wings, trying to escape, but Rue Bu didn't allow it.
"I guess you're an enslavement path Gu worm. Hmm... did Chen Yan call you the mindless wasp? I've never heard of or seen it before, but I think I understand what happened: it influenced the mind of the wingless bat, making it think that it was its offspring or even its master. The mindless beast then ended up defending and providing food for it. Chen Yan somehow found out about it, and then all of this happened."
"I don't know how she knew about this Gu worm, but she specifically knew it was controlling a bat, as she was also fighting a green bat earlier today. Anyway, the Gu worm knew Chen Yan was going to destroy it if she couldn't keep it, so it started influencing her too, making her not want to abandon it. Since it didn't have enough time to control Chen Yan to the extent it controlled the beast, I don't even know if it can do that alone. It took a gamble by ordering the mindless beast to attack it instead of Chen Yan, making her panic and throw the Gu worm away to save it." he concluded his analysis.
"The voice really is helpful. Without it, I would have probably died today." He looked at the wound on his body; it still wasn't fully healed, but with enough time, he would be okay. "I would probably be in half right now without the state of peace. It absorbed most of the damage, and I still ended up with this wound. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if what the voice suggested didn't work." Although Rue Bu spoke calmly, he was busy refining the Gu worm in his hand.
"If you're fighting for your life, I doubt you can focus on controlling others. You're just a Gu worm after all. If Chen Yan had thought about that, she would probably be the one refining you right now." The Gu worm was fighting for its life, expelling Rue Bu's primeval essence as fast as it could, but to no avail.
"At first, I was refining it to make that monster go away. I didn't think I could ever refine a rank two Gu worm so easily, but surprisingly it's not much harder to refine than the berserk Gu, it must be a drawback you have. Even though it will take some time, I will eventually have you as my servant." Rue Bu said, while looking at Chen Yan's dead body.
"No one knows that I cultivate here. I should just avoid this spot from now on." He looked at the moon and then at Chen Yan's head, which still had an expression of shock and fear on it. He stayed silent for a while, then left without saying another word.
'The ambitions of man always bring disaster. People with ambitions will do everything in their power to achieve them, and that's what I always hated about them. Well, I guess I'm one of them now. What a joke.' he thought to himself as he disappeared into the shadows of the forest. He could have warned Chen Yan and saved her, but why would he do that when he could take a gamble and acquire the Gu worm for himself? It didn't really bother him that Chen Yan ended up dying, but becoming what he hates certainly affected him the most.
The shadows of the trees clouded the ground, blocking the moonlight and shrouding Chen Yan's body in darkness. A genius from the Lin tribe ended up dead tonight, which will stir the alliance's youth and make them rethink their decisions. It will be an incident for everyone to remember, for some more than the rest.
