Li Manli opened the cabinet below and found a box from which she retrieved Grandpa's reading glasses. She polished them with a cloth until they were clean, then hurried back and handed them to Li Gaoshan with both hands.
Li Gaoshan took a deep breath, trying to keep his hands from trembling as he received the glasses and put them on his ears. Then he carefully examined the egg.
Li Fei too was anxious under Li Gaoshan's scrutiny. The old man had been silent for so long; did he like it or not? Li Fei simply couldn't see through his eyes.
After a while, Li Gaoshan handed the egg back to Li Fei. Everyone around watched him intently, waiting for his evaluation. Even Manli's parents were filled with anticipation and were very curious about the skill level of the apprentice their daughter had taken on.
They all knew that Li Fei was their daughter's first apprentice and that anyone she accepted must possess truly remarkable talent.
