Calming Kieran down was a Herculean task. He was shattered, his world had turned upside down by the devastating truth. His body shook with uncontrollable sobs, his eyes red and puffy from crying. I held him close, trying to absorb some of his pain, but it was like trying to hold back a tsunami.
As the night wore on, Kieran's exhaustion finally caught up with him, and he drifted off to sleep, his body still racked with occasional sobs. I sat beside him, my heart heavy with sorrow, feeling like I had just shattered his world into a million pieces.
"I shouldn't have told him anything," I whispered to myself, the guilt and regret eating away at me like corrosive acid.
The night seemed to stretch on forever, the darkness outside mirroring the despair that had settled over me. I couldn't shake the feeling that I had made a terrible mistake, that I had destroyed the one person I loved more than anything.
