Your leniency towards that slave is baffling, my lord," she pressed, her voice laced with disdain. "You've never shown such interest in anyone, let alone a mere servant."

He sighed, his patience worn thin. "Must we rehash this, my lady? You know our arrangement: a marriage of convenience, nothing more."

"Convenience?" she echoed, her tone dripping with venom. "You mean a convenient means to claim my family's wealth and title?"

His eyes narrowed. "I suggest you refrain from meddling in affairs that don't concern you. Our contract is clear; don't forget your duties."

She persisted, undeterred. "I won't be silenced. Your sudden fascination with that slave reeks of ulterior motives. What secrets are you hiding?"

His expression darkened. "You'd do well to focus on your own responsibilities rather than questioning mine. No wonder he killed her. A nosy wife can be a liability. I'm warning you, stay out of my affairs."
