At noon dismissal, Lin Anning had just left the school when she saw Huo Shen leaning against the wall with one hand in his pocket at the corner of the alley.
Dressed in white atop black trousers, his military buzzcut giving off a sense of sloppiness and rebellion, even in this deserted corner, his presence was impossible to ignore at a glance.
She pursed her lips and smiled, running towards him with her backpack on.
"Dear Comrade Huo, how come you're free to pick me up today?"
Huo Shen took her backpack and held her hand, fingers interlocked.
"I happened to be in town for some errands, checked the time and figured you'd be getting out of school, so I came to take you home."
"Hungry? Shall we eat at your brother's place?"
Lin Anning thought for a moment and shook her head.
"Better not, my brother seems to have developed a fear of Huo Shen lately; he shudders at the mere mention of your name."
