The maple tree known as the Marriage Tree was said to be a thousand years old, with a thick trunk and lush foliage. Every year, when all the maple leaves at the bottom of the mountain had fallen, it still stood at the mountaintop with a crown of red, remaining firm until the day the snow fell.
It was just so peculiar, the same every year.
The two rested for a while before continuing upwards.
The reason Hongbao Mountain was named such had nothing to do with the maple trees, actually, it was because there was a Red Treasure Pagoda not far from the summit.
As for why the mountain was covered with maple trees, legend had it that the Taoist Master who lived in the Red Treasure Pagoda, before becoming a Taoist, was abandoned by his childhood sweetheart and fiancée. In a fit of anger, he took up the monastic life. Not long after, he heard that his fiancée's family had all been executed.
