"How is he, doctor?" Eliza worriedly asked after the doctor came out of the emergency room.
The doctor put his hand in his hospital gown's left pocket and greeted Eliza with a sweet smile. "He's fine now. All we have to do is wait for him to wake up for further examination."
Eliza sighed in relief after what the doctor said. "Thank you,"
After talking to the doctor, Eliza went inside the emergency room and sat on the couch in the corner, just four steps away from Jalil's bed. She let out another sigh while staring at Jalil's peaceful face.
"You should rest. The doctor said he's fine now."
Eliza looked in Jeffrey's direction as he entered the room.
She just smiled and shook her head as a response. "It's okay. I'll wait for him to wake up."
Jeffrey just nodded and walked in her direction to sit beside her. He then looked at his best friend's sleeping face. "He was so stressed these past few days."
Eliza glanced at Jeffrey. "Yeah, I noticed it as well. Was it because of that new company again? Why did the clients transfer?"
Jeffrey just shrugged his shoulders and said, "I'm really not that knowledgeable about business, so I couldn't say. But maybe they're good at marketing or something."
They both looked at Jalil as he moved and let out a faint grumble. Eliza immediately walked closer to him, and then their eyes locked on each other.
"He's awake."
"I'll call the doctor," Jeffrey said then, leaving the room.
Jalil was about to get up, but Eliza stopped him by blocking his chest with her arm. "Don't get up yet."
Jalil's brows furrowed in confusion as he roamed his eyes around the room. "Where am I?"
"In the ER. You collapsed at the office, so we brought you here. Why are you still working when you're not feeling well?" Eliza gently scolded him while fixing his blanket.
"I'm fine,"
"Fine, my ass. You were unconscious for more than an hour, and you're telling me you're fine? I could even fry an egg with the heat of your body earlier."
"Stop exaggerating."
Eliza rolled her eyes at Jalil's reply. "I'm not."
They both looked at the door as they heard it open and saw Jeffrey come in with a doctor following him.
Eliza stepped away from Jalil and let the doctor check on him. Her brows were knitted in annoyance, while her arms were crossed in front of her chest.
"What's wrong?" Jeffrey whispered as he noticed her facial expression.
Eliza glanced at him, then back in Jalil's direction. "Nothing. Just someone ruined my mood."
Jeffrey immediately understood what she said, which caused him to chuckle. He knew it was Jalil.
After the doctor asked Jalil several questions and examined his physiological state, he left the room with a negative diagnosis of any serious head injury.
It was around 3:00 a.m. when Eliza fell asleep on the couch, while Jeffrey and Jalil were still awake and having conversation.
Jalil got up and looked at Eliza, who was lying on her left side in a huddled position.
He then checked the thickness of his blanket and gave it to Jeffrey. "Cover her with this blanket. She can't tolerate cold."
Jeffrey followed what Jalil said and gently covered Eliza with the hospital blanket. He smiled a bit while staring at her puffy face.
"You know she was really worried about you," Jeffrey said after wrapping her in a blanket. He glanced at Jalil's confused expression as he went back to the chair beside his bed.
"She called me for help to lift you because you were too heavy for her. If only you saw her panicking face," Jeffrey added, which made Jalil look away.
"Anyone would do the same if someone collapsed," Jalil replied, then he lay down on the bed again.
Jeffrey fell silent as he stared at his best friend. "I didn't mean anything about what I said. I'm just surprised that she got a reaction like a real wife."
"Her reaction was natural. Even you would do the same if you saw me in that state," Jalil replied while massaging his forehead.
Jeffrey faintly chuckled. "Of course I would because we're friends and we've known each other for years. But, Eliza? She even stayed here for you even though I'm already here. She could just go home and rest."
"You sounded like you wanted me to date her for real," Jalil directly said, which caught him off guard.
Jeffrey averted his gaze and cleared his throat—he didn't expect that response. "I'm not. I'm just saying. I'm just surprised at how caring she was, although you're not that, you know?"
Jalil stared at his best friend with that serious expression. Then he glanced at Eliza. "Now you sound like you're interested in her."
Jeffrey paused. He felt his chest tighten, and a faint panic was slowly felt by him. He awkwardly chuckled after he managed to calm himself. "What are you saying? Okay, I'll be honest, I admire her, but that doesn't mean I'm interested."
Jalil turned his cold, serious gaze to Jeffrey, and then he said, "Our contract will end in four years."
Jeffrey's brows knitted in confusion, trying to comprehend what Jalil said. "Ah, yeah. Why are you telling me that?"
Jalil just shrugged his shoulders, then he moved his body towards the right, facing his back to Jeffrey. "I'm tired."
"Then rest."
