Eliza's brows furrowed as they stopped in front of a familiar building. It has glass windows all over, and its color is a mix of grayish blue and white. It only had six floors, but it was wider than other buildings around them.
Atty. Vasquez stepped out of the car first, then opened the passenger door, waiting for Eliza to come out, who was now still recognizing the building and the logo in front. "Wait. Is this..."
Vasquez looked in the direction where Eliza was looking, then back to Eliza and said, "Aversin Marketing."
Eliza's forehead knitted even more. "He's working here. No wonder he could pay me a million."
Vasquez silently chuckled. "Let's get inside."
Eliza nodded and followed Vasquez towards the entrance. "What's his name?"
"Jalil Chris Aversin," Vasquez replied, which made Eliza halt.
"Jalil what?"
Vasquez turned around to look in Eliza's direction. "Jalil Aversin."
"You mean, Jalil? Like Jalil? The CEO?!" Eliza asked in disbelief. Vasquez just nodded in response. "Damn! Why didn't you tell me?! I'm sorry, but, no! I can't do this!"
"Huh?! Wait. Wait. You can't refuse now. I already told him!" Vasquez retorted. "What's wrong?"
"He's an Aversin, Lor. AVERSIN! Not just someone ordinary. AVERSIN! On top of that, he's the only grandson, which means an heir!"
"So?" Vasquez asked in confusion. Eliza just massaged her forehead out of frustration.
"I'm nothing compared to him. What will people think if we get married? Besides, what if his grandparents won't like me? Am I going to be a slave?! No. No. I'm fine with my life!" Eliza was about to leave, but Vasquez held her tight.
"You're overthinking things again, Liz!"
"I'm not! I'm just saying the—" Eliza bumped her forehead on someone's chest as she tried to pull herself from Vasquez's hold. She looked up and met the mesmerizing eyes of a man. His stare was cold, but it wouldn't scare you; instead, you would feel butterflies in your stomach. In short, he had face harmonization, which could easily attract plenty of women.
'I only saw him on TV. God, he's so gorgeous in person! ' Eliza thought, staring at the man's alluring physical features.
"You're watching too many movies. We're not as cruel as you think." Jalil's voice was deep and gentle. "We'll get inside together. Walk beside me and don't walk awkwardly. Ignore the people around you and just focus in the direction you're heading."
After Jalil said those words, he started walking inside. Eliza immediately followed his pace and looked straight ahead.
As they entered the building, inaudible whispers were heard. Eliza understood why Jalil ordered her to ignore her surroundings; everyone was like a bee passing gossip.
Only Atty. Vasquez, Eliza, and Jalil entered the elevator, while Jalil's bodyguards were left outside.
Atty. Vasquez pushed the button on the 6th floor, and they stood there in complete silence until they arrived.
Jalil loosened his necktie as they entered his office, and then he sat on his swivel chair. "Have a seat," he told Eliza and Atty. Vasquez.
"I guess Atty. Vasquez explained everything to you. So you're here to sign a contract, right?" Jalil directly asked, which put Eliza in silence. She didn't know what to say or how to act in front of him.
Jalil took a deep sigh and leaned into his swivel chair. "Look, I don't want a robot wife or a mute wife. I want you to act natural. Disregard my status and just think of me like an ordinary husband."
Eliza nodded and let out a faint sigh. "Is it true you're paying me a million every month?"
Jalil was caught off guard, which made him look at Atty. Vasquez with those questioning eyes. Atty. Vasquez just avoided his gaze and cleared his throat.
Jalil sighed. "Every month is quite too much. How about every year?"
Eliza's eyes dilated in shock. "Every year?! I thought you'd only marry me to show your grandparents you're marrying?"
"Yes. But you'll give them a heart attack if we're getting a divorce after." Jalil pulled out a folder and showed clean A4-sized papers with printed texts to Eliza. "Read the contract carefully. I'm not forcing you to sign it. You can refuse anytime."
